Oregon Beer News, 04/04/2013
Not really beer-related, but it’s the fourth day of week as well as the fourth day of the fourth month of the year, and the 94th day of the year overall—that’s a lot of 4s! Here’s the Oregon beer news for Thursday 4/4. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting a tasting today featuring California’s organic Eel River Brewing from 5 to 8pm: “Taste the brand new version of Earth Thirst Double IPA, Raven’s Eye Imperial Stout, and Triple Exultation Old Ale. This year’s Earth Thirst is hoppier and more aromatic than last year’s and is a superbly balanced double IPA, so we’ll put it on tap too!”
McMenamins Old Church & Pub (Wilsonville) has a limited-edition beer tasting and meet the brewer today starting at 5pm featuring Maple-Wood Stout: “This is a stout that was aged on French oak which was previously soaked in 100% organic Vermont maple syrup. The addition of vanilla beans gives this beer a well rounded sweetness and layered flavor profile. Smooth and sweet on palate with a subtle maple aroma and finish.”
And over at McMenamins Fulton Pub & Brewery (Portland), they have a limited-edition tasting as well featuring a Spruce Porter: “This porter has been “spruced” up so to speak. Fresh spruce tips compliment a rich chocolate flavor and bready sweet malt profile. The hops play a back-up role in this beer, allowing the spruce flavors to shine. Over-all this beer has a pleasant sweet quality. Smooth, rich, and delicious!” It starts at 5pm and when the beer’s gone, it’s gone.
Falling Sky Brewing (Eugene) has a couple of new beers forthcoming, one of which they are seeking some input on: “POURTER – Robust style made with three types of chocolate malt. **We are undecided whether to infuse this beer with a blend of coffee beans. Kama Sumatra V.2? Taking votes till the 10th.**
THIRD EYE VISION IMPERIAL INDIA PALE LAGER – At least 8.5% and 60IBU hopped with Glacier, Centennial and Czech Saaz.”
Meanwhile, over in Corvallis at the other “sky” brewery, Sky High Brewing, they are brewing up an organic beer: “The aroma from our very first batch of ORGANIC DREAM-ON PALE ALE fills the brewery this morning.”
