Oregon Beer News, 04/05/2013
Here’s the Oregon beer news for Friday, April 5, and the rest of the weekend. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
Worthy Brewing (Bend): Today’s the day of their big Grand Opening and Hop House Dedication! The party will take place from 4 to 9pm and will include a pig roast, Worthy’s new Saison on tap, live music, and of course the Hop House dedication ceremony for Dr. Al Haunold: “Special Tribute to Dr. Al Haunold as we christen the Worthy Hop House and plant rhizomes in the Worthy Hop Yard. We’ll kick it off with a short (!) speech at 5:30 pm and present our hero with a commemorative “Farm Out” tie dye t-shirt and Großes Dankeschön poster.” It’s going to be a great party I think—make sure you check it out!
Tomorrow, Saturday the 6th, the Buckman-Kearns Brewfest is taking place at The Eastburn in Portland starting at noon: “3rd year of celebrating the excellent breweries we are so lucky to have in our neighborhood. Participants this year are Lucky Labrador, Coalition Brewing, Natian Brewing, Migration Brewing, Buckman Brewing, Cascade Brewing, Burnside Brewing and our newest neighbor Base Camp Brewing! Admission is only $15 which gets you a Brewfest Pint Glass (a real pint glass, not plastic! Yeah!) and 4 tickets. Tickets are $1 each and 1 ticket gets you one 4oz taster or a full pint for 4 tickets. We’ll have Corn Hole outside (weather depending) Live music starting at 7:30 to keep the party going with Inspirational Beets followed by Dartz and Like Years! We’ll have great food and of course lots of great beers. WE WILL NOT BE SERVING BRUNCH ON THIS DATE.” (via Oregon Brewers Guild)
Swing Tree Brewing (Ashland): This Sunday the 7th is their Pre-Opening Party taking place in downtown Ashland at Paddy Brannan’s Irish Pub starting at 8pm. “Since we are not fully licensed yet, and this beer was made here at corporate headquarters (aka our house), we can’t legally sell it so what to do… give it to all of you of course! We are throwing a pre-opening party where you can taste pilot batches of the Porch Swing Pale and the Obligatory IPA. It’s our way of saying thank you for all the support and it’s a chance for you to taste what’s to come. So come one come all, and help us celebrate the upcoming arrival of Swing Tree Brewing Company!” Great chance to try some of the beers from Ashland’s newest up-and-coming brewery.
Deschutes Brewery (Bend) is set to brew the next Class of 88 beer with Great Lakes Brewing Company: “We welcome Master Brewer, Mark Hunger from Great Lakes Brewing Company to Bend today to brew the Class of ’88 Collaboration Beer: Imperial Smoked Porter! Look for each brewery’s version in bottles in late May!”
