Oregon Beer News, 04/05/2016
Here is the news in Oregon beer for this Tuesday, April 5. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Today is the release of Bend’s Silver Moon Brewing‘s Skyliners IPA, a beer they packaged in collaboration with the Deschutes Historical Museum to tie into the region’s local recreation history: “Silver Moon will donate $1 per pint of Skyliners IPA on tap to the museum through the month of April. In addition, a special Skyliners’ IPA Bottle Launch party will be at Silver Moon Brew Pub, 24 NW Greenwood Avenue in Bend, Tuesday, April 5 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. to introduce the 22 oz. Skyliners IPA (Hop Nob). DHM is asking for a $10 donation per bottle or $110 per case. The launch party will also feature vintage ski photos and rare footage of ski jumping off Pilot Butte in 1965. The Skyliners IPA and label is a tribute to the men and women of Bend’s first ski/mountaineering club. Founded in 1927, Skyliners introduced outdoor recreation to Central Oregon.”
The Bier Stein (Eugene): Tonight from 6 to 9pm they are welcoming Pacific City’s Pelican Brewing in for a “Meet the Flockers” tasting event: “Flutter by and taste a lineup of 5 hop-forward beers from Pacific City’s finest! Some of the higher ups in the pecking order from Pelican will be roosting here from 6-9. Try a ‘flight’ of the following: Mosaic IPA, Dirty Bird IPA, Funky Spot Brett IPA, Umbrella IPA, and X2 Double IPA. The puns are free.”
Tonight in Portland, Belmont Station is hosting an Elysian Brewing tasting and fundraiser for the Pink Boots Society from 5 to 7pm: “Join a team of Elysian Brewers for a bottle tasting in the store and some fun drafts in our taproom, including King Hippo Triple IPA, Dayglow IPA and Boozy School Dropout, a Strawberry Kiwi Gose (!) brewed by the women of Elysian for International Women’s Brew Day. In the spirit of celebrating all the great women in our industry 100% of the proceeds from sales of Boozy School Dropout tonight go to the Pink Boots Society.”
Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Tuesdays at their Pubs are Community Pint Nights which help to raise funds to a given benefit partner by donating $1 of every pint sold all day to that organization. For April, the Bend Pub is raising money for the American Cancer Society, and in Portland they are benefitting the Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East-Women Build. Good causes and worth helping out by enjoying a pint or three!
Block 15 Brewery (Corvallis): The first Tuesday of the month they have a Cellar Stash release at their Tap Room (the new one on the south side of Corvallis), where “founding brewer Nick will be offering up a small quantity of rare, cellared beers for in-house consumption. We’re open today from 3pm – 9pm!” For today there are two beers: 2013 Brewers Brunch Blend (“A blend of 40% Imagine, 30% Super Nebula and 30% Nebula—conditioned on Tahitian vanilla pods and Peruvian coffee beans in 20 year bourbon barrels.”) and 2013 Turbulent Consequence, Cassis (“A single barrel selection of Fall 2012 Turbulent Consequence, matured three additional months with whole black currants. Bottle-conditioned with locally-gathered honey.”).
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Their Tap It Tuesday event at the Barrel House at 6pm is featuring The Final Blendown: “featuring sour wheat and blond ales aged for 14 months in oak wine barrels with cranberries, lime zest and spices.”
Vanguard Brewing (Wilsonville): New beer on tap! “Announcing a new beer! Flying Solo session IPA. A crisp, light bodied and refreshing session IPA that is lightly hopped with Willamette, CTZ and Centennial. This is a beer that you will reach for time and time again. 4.5 ABV and 45 IBU. It’s on now at our tap room and will soon be at your favorite bar, taproom, or restaurant.”
