Oregon Beer News, 04/17/2013
Happy Hump Day! Here’s the Oregon beer news for Wednesday, April 17th. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Lompoc Brewing (Portland): Tonight at the Hedge House from 5 to 7pm they are holding a release party for Cellar D’or, a Belgian-style golden ale; they’d posted a description previously: “Belgian Farmhouse style that’s golden in color with malted spelt and acidulated malt.” It’s also slated to show up at the Cheers to Belgian Beers fest this weekend, so if you don’t get the chance to try it tonight, look for it Friday and Saturday!
McMenamins Cedar Hills (Beaverton) has got an interesting-looking limited-edition beer tasting tonight featuring a beer named First Light Lemongrass Wheat: “With the spring season upon us, Oak Hills brewer Stephen Harper decided to create a light, flavorful American Wheat ale. Infused with just the right amount of fresh lemongrass, the “First Light” is wonderfully easy drinking ale. Munich malt provides just the right amount of body. Conservative amounts of Sterling and Brewers Gold hops let the flavor of the lemongrass shine through. Perfect for soaking up some rays on a patio.” The tasting starts at 4pm and lasts as long as the keg does; hopefully there’ll be some sun today to match the beer.
Belmont Station (Portland) tonight is hosting a tapping of Lagunitas Brewing‘s special Waldo beer… at 4:20. “Waldo’s is a super hoppy imperial IPA and a very rare one at that. We’ll tap it at 4:20 and we’ll also have a special buy a pint and keep the glass deal on select Lagunitas drafts! Lagunitas ever-popular IPA and Pilsner will also be on tap for this event. Come and enjoy all three!”
10 Barrel Brewing (Bend): Tonight is the release party for their new beer, The O.G., a Wheat India Pale Ale. The party is taking place from 7 to 10pm at JC’s Bar and Grill in downtown Bend (where 10 Barrel originally got their start!) and pints will be $2.50 during that time (and 50-cent wings). O.G. is the new year-round beer from 10 Barrel, and will appear in both 12-ounce and 22-ounce bottles.
Gigantic Brewing (Portland): Today they have a new beer release being tapped, Whole in the Head Imperial IPA, taking place from 3 to 9pm at the brewery. “Whole in the Head is a freakin’ hop bomb. Bright, multilayered citrus hop aromas and flavors blow up your face, with just the right amount of hop bitterness to back it all up. 8.5% ABV – Lots ‘o IBUs. Available on draft and in 22oz bottles April-June. Label art by Tim Biskup.”
Base Camp Brewing (Portland) is bottling up their next beer to make it to their aluminum bottles, Ripstop Rye Pils. It’s hard to tell exactly from the photo they posted, but those bottles look kind of cool!
Rat Hole Brewing (Bend): Bend’s newest brewery won awards at the Denver International Beer Competition, both for the Rotation Red Ale and their Porter! I’ll have more details on that in a later post, but big congrats to Rat Hole for the wins!
