Oregon Beer News, 04/20/2016
It’s the date of 4/20 today, which has certain connotations particularly in a state where cannabis is legal—how’s your Wednesday? Here’s the Oregon beer news for the day; as usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
McMenamins Cedar Hills (Beaverton) has their “Liquid Longevity” beer tasting tonight from 6 to 9pm, featuring HiFi Pale Ale: “HiFi Pale Ale is a light easy drinking American Pale Ale. It’s pale in color with most of the body coming form the Flaked Barley and Victory Malt. Notes of grapefruit and pineapple come from the new Idaho 7 Hops, from the state that the name suggests. Spring is here and its time to go HiFi!” The beer is brewed by brewer Dan Black of the Oak Hills brewery.
The Green Dragon (Portland): Today’s Green Dragon Brew Crew release is featuring Cold Brew Baltic: “This week’s release from the Green Dragon Brew Crew is an homage to two things that define Portland, coffee and beer. The Brew Crew called on their friend Chris Wade for the coffee side of the recipe. Chris selected Kenya Neri coffee for its pronounced stone fruit flavor, rich body, and wine-like finishing character. He roasted the beans to medium level to bring out the flavor, and prepared a cold brew extract. The Brew Crew contributed a batch of Baltic Porter, blended it with Chris’ coffee, creating an amazing combination of beer and coffee. Did we mention that Wednesday is also National Cold Brew Day? Join us at the Green Dragon for a perfect celebration!” The release starts at 5pm.
Three Mugs Brewing (Hillsboro) has their “Beer Randall” night taking place this evening from 6 to 9pm. They say: “We’re breaking the randall out again to infuse beers with yummy stuff. Come out for a taste or a pint. The big favorite last time was the McKeenan’s Irish Stout run through Sumatran coffee beans.”
The BeerMongers (Portland) today has their 4/20-themed celebration of all thinks dank and smokey kicking off at 4:20pm: “As an annual celebration, we turn our taps over to both smoked and deliciously dank smelling beers. Taplist will include libations provided by Pfriem, Fat Heads, Schlenkerla, Reverend Nat’s, Locust Cider, Baerlic, Upright, Evil Twin and more.”
Chetco Brewing (Brookings) has the “re-release” party for their Willa Nelson IPA, first released last April 20. (Yes, all the connotation you imagine is there.) It runs from 2 to 9pm: “Willa Nelson is back at your favorite joint! Roll in on 4.20 for tasty munchies, our very first Willy look alike contest, $4 pints of Willa from 4p-6p, and Raffles & Prizes!”
The Oregon Brewers Festival has selected their Grand Marshal and I’m happy to see it’s a good friend: “We are incredibly proud and excited to announce this year’s Grand Marshal of the Festival: Lisa “The Beer Goddess” Morrison! Lisa will lead the Brewers Parade on 7/27 from the Melody Ballroom to the opening ceremonies, where she’ll tap the official first keg of the festival. Learn more about the OBF Brunch & Parade at http://oregonbrewfest.com/brunch.php” Yay Lisa!
ColdFire Brewing (Eugene) has a new beer on tap: “We’ve got a new beer on tap today! Introducing ColdFire ESB – light and deeply malty. Thanks to Clovie Does Chalk for the beautiful artwork. Great Balls of Fire will be our food truck today. Come see us after 4! Cheers!”
The Ram Brewery (Salem) has a 420-themed beer on today at both their Salem and Clackamas locations: Big Dread Organic IPA. It’s brewed with Simcoe and Citra hops and organic malts.
