Oregon Beer News, 04/22/2015
Happy Earth Day! Be sure to drink a green beer today—the organic kind, not the St. Paddy’s Day-kind. Here is the news in Oregon beer for April 22; as usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Saraveza (Portland) tonight is holding their “Michigan on North Michigan Night” basically a tap takeover of Michigan beers (left over from the CBC): “Saraveza may be a Wisconsin bar, but we love our neighbors in the mid-west and on our side street, North Michigan Ave. It’s Michigan on North Michigan Avenue night! All Michigan beers on tap from Bell’s Brewery, Inc. & Founders Brewing Co.! We’ll play some Euchre, eat some pasties and listen to some tunes outta Detroit eh?” The fun starts at 5pm.
PFriem Family Brewers (Hood River): They are hitting Bend this week to roll out their bottle releases, with a full schedule the next several days: Crow’s Feet Commons today, the 22nd, from 5 to 8pm; Broken Top Bottle Shop on Friday the 24th from 5 to 8pm; Newport Avenue Market on Saturday the 25th from 3:30 to 5:30pm; and the Platypus Pub Saturday night from 6 to 8pm. Among bottles I’ve seen listed elsewhere are Pilsner, IPA, Blonde IPA, Begian Strong Dark, Belgian Strong Blonde, Saison, Flanders Red and Flanders Blonde.
Portland’s Old Town Brewing has signed a distribution deal with Maletis Beverage to expand their footprint around the Portland area, according to a press release issued today. From the release: “Joining the well-known distributors roster will bring OTB’s award winning beers to bars, restaurants and retail locations throughout the Portland market starting in May. In anticipation of increased demand, the brewery is expanding its operations to include five additional 15 BBL fermenters and three 21 BBL brite tanks, more than doubling the brewery’s production ability.” Late spring should also find Old Town bottles on shelves as well.
The Bend Ale Trail is being updated to add two new Central Oregon breweries: Redmond’s Wild Ride Brewing and Sunriver’s Sunriver Brewing. According to the Bulletin newspaper article: “For the two breweries being added, it’s a chance to bring areas that are off the beaten path of Central Oregon’s beer scene onto the trail. Both new breweries are outside Bend’s city limits. By contrast, one brewery on the existing app — Three Creeks Brewing in Sisters — is outside Bend. “People should get out of Bend to see some great breweries if they get a chance,” said Brian Mitchell, co-owner of Wild Ride Brewing.”
The Green Dragon (Portland) has their Green Dragon Brew Crew release tonight: “Join us tonight for the release of The Green Dragon Brew Crew’s latest offering – Dart Throw Belgian Dark Strong Ale. Dart Throw was aged in oak whiskey barrels and rings in at an impressive 9% ABV. Beer tapped at 5pm, Brewer’s talk at 6pm. See you there.”
Bend’s Platypus Pub tonight is hosting California’s Firestone Walker Brewing for a tasting from 6 to 8pm. They post that “Sucaba and XVIII Anniversary Ale [will be] on tap” so Central Oregonians, don’t miss out on an opportunity like this!
