Oregon Beer News, 04/26/2017
Happy Hump Day! Here’s the news in beer from around Oregon for Wednesday, April 26. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
McMenamins Highland Pub & Brewery (Gresham) has The Proper Taste beer tasting today from 5 to 8pm, featuring Whiskey Before Breakfast: “You always wake up right with coffee in your pint, but some mornings just require a little something extra. In this case, that something extra is the flavor of bourbon and oak, infused into a keg of a Blonde Coffee Ale for a month. Cock-a-doodle-doo!”
Bazi Bierbrasserie in Portland is celebrating King’s Day with special pours of La Trappe and a Kopstootje Biere tasting featuring a spicy Upright Brewing Biere de Garde. “Bazi is encouraging patrons to wear ORANGE – the color of royalty – on Wednesday and come experience beers by the only Dutch trappist brewery as well as a special Kopstootje pairing. Complimentary “King’s Day” t-shirts will be available with every La Trappe beer or Kopstootje pairing. Expect orange beads, crown’s fit for a Queen or King, sunglasses, plus other swag.” As for that Kopstootje tasting: “The Kopstootje, or “little headbutt”, is the Dutch version of beer and a shot. A tulip glass is filled to the rim with genever and served with a beer back. Since the glass would overflow if moved, the drinker bends down to take the first sip off the top, following that with a sip of beer.”
The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting WildCraft Cider for a Native Blackberry Botanical Bottle release and tasting tonight from 6 to 8pm: “It may sound like a mouthful, but wait ’til you taste the latest bottled cider from WildCraft– Blackberries and botanical herbs play well in this dry cider that has WildCraft’s signature ‘pop.’ You can enjoy free samples of this new release, and we will also have WildCraft’s Hard Cider on tap.”
McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse (Hillsboro) has their Roadhouse Refreshments beer tasting tonight from 6 to 9pm, featuring four different beers, often from different McMenamins locations. Tongiht’s four featured beers have three from CPR and one from the Edgefield: Jalapa Lager, Edelweiss Helles Bock, NNW Lager, and Edgefield Oktoberfest.
Imperial Bottle Shop and The Beer Party PDX are throwing a Pizza & Beer Party tonight starting at 6pm featuring Coalition Brewing’s Sanctuary IPA: “Beer, pizza & good cause… that’s a win-win-win! Come by Imperial Bottle Shop & Taproom to get a pint of delcious Coalition Brewing Sanctuary IPA and a slice of HOTLIPS Pizza for $8, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the ACLU of Oregon! We’ll have a variety of pizzas available (including a veggie option) to pair with Sacutuary IPA, which is brewed using hops from all over the world as a shout out that we are stronger together and the whole is much more than a sum of its parts.”
Walkabout Brewing (Medford) will be doing a beer tasting event tonight at The Growler Guys in Ashland from 5 to 8pm: “Come join us for a tasting with our local Meford brewery! Walkabout Brewing Company is going to be here for an evening of fun! There will be 4 different styles up, raffels, and prizes!!!”
Rogue Ales‘ Green Dragon Brew Crew release at their Eastside Pub in Portland tonight is featuring a big barleywine named Good Companion: “Good Companion is a young English barleywine brewed entirely with British malts, hops, and yeast. This pale, full-bodied beer features an array of fruity flavor layered within notes of warm bread and toffee. This delicious barleywine also has just enough hop presence to balance its strength and malty richness. This beer is truly a Good Companion to warm your bones and shepherd you through on cold and dreary night.”
Portland’s Great Notion Brewing has a crowler release today: Couples Retreat. “Come and get your Crowlers of Couples Retreat, a juicy hazebomb brewed with hibiscus and dragonfruit! This DIPA was a collaboration brew with our friends Bottle Logic Brewing.”
Ordnance Brewing‘s Wilsonville taphouse is hosting a Battle of the Black IPAs today and tomorrow: “Join us as we battle Night Hops. our black I.P.A., against Oregon City Brewing C.D.A in a blind taste competition. Two 5oz pours of each brew and you vote for your favorite! Meet David Vohden, Oregon City Brewer and tall C.D.A. with him.”

They are bringing some pretty “limited, dope” beers! Follow our social media to see the beers that will be on tap for the event! Hope to see you all here! Cheers!”
