Oregon Beer News, 05/13/2019
Today is the start of American Craft Beer Week, the nationwide celebration of craft brewers that runs through Sunday, May 19. Look for ACBW tie-ins at various locations throughout the week—if I find any I’ll note them in the news roundups, including today’s. I’ll be updating this news post throughout the day with the latest tidbits as I find them, so check back often.
Klamath Basin Brewing in Klamath Falls is celebrating American Craft Beer Week with a new beer: “To celebrate we will be releasing our Pilsner on Monday May 13. Our brewers will also delve further into the cellar and bring out a brew that hasn’t seen a tap in over 3 years and put it on draft Wednesday the 15th. So stop by and enjoy a pint on our patio to celebrate your local independent brewery, Cheers!”
Portland’s Columbia River Brewing is closing; the New School has details here, and CRB posted an update on Facebook: “Wednesday May 15th will be our last day. We want to thank all our loyal guest that have been with us from our humble start July of 2010, we consider all of you an extension of our family. Starting tomorrow Monday May 13th through Wednesday May 15th, when we close we will offer $7.00 growler fills of any of our craft beers. And happy hour is from open to close. Cheers!!”
Worthy Brewing (Bend) announced a new summer beer that will be available at the Brasada Ranch Resort in Central Oregon: “**SUMMER SPECIAL*** Brasada Sunset Pale | 4.9% ABV | 33 IBU | Hints of mango & grapefruit & featuring our Strata hop. Several McMenamins locations are hosting Friends & Family Night fundraisers today, starting at 5pm. These fundraisers benefit a local organization and 50% of the night’s food and drink sales are donated, which is a great deal. The locations are:
- The Raleigh Hills Pub in Portland, which is benefiting Ainsworth Elementary School
- McMenamins Corvallis Pub on Third Street, raising money for the Benton County Historical Society
- McMenamins on Monroe in Corvallis, benefiting Mt. View Elementary School

Central Oregon Beer Week returns this Friday! This annual celebration of Central Oregon beer runs from May 17 through Sunday, May 26, and starts with a kickoff party with Kobold Brewing at Kobold’s Vault Taphouse in Redmond on Friday. Kobold brewed the official beer for COBW, SMaSH Zombie Sprint IIPA, so this will be the first chance to taste it. More to come!
The 2nd annual Sip of Spring Festival returns this Saturday to Rossi Farms in Portland. “The festival will showcase 13 small Oregon craft breweries, each pouring two beers apiece, plus one Oregon cidery. Attendees can taste spring sippers from Breakside, Crux, Culmination, Gateway, Gigantic, Ecliptic, Level, Little Beast, Migration, Montavilla, pFriem, StormBreaker, Upright and Bauman’s Cider. Advance general admission for one person cost $20 for a tasting cup and 10 tasting tickets; advance general admission for two people costs $40 for two tasting cups, 20 tasting tickets, and for a limited time, an additional four tasting tickets.” Tickets are available in advance on the website.
