Oregon Beer News, 05/21/2019
Here is the news in Oregon beer for this Tuesday, May 21. As usual I’ll be updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often for updates.
Culmination Brewing (Portland) is celebrating its fourth anniversary all this week, “with a week of collaborations and special beer releases all culminating with a big ol’ party!” Today they are releasing cans of Creative Conundrum: “A collaboration with our dearest friends Ruse Brewing. A NEIPA DDH with Denali, Mosaic, and El Dorado. We loved the draft iteration of this beer so much we had to bring it back.”
Monkless Belgian Ales (Bend) has a new beer being released today: Brother’s SMASH Bier, a Belgian-style Single with 4.8% ABV and 32 IBUs. “If you know Monkless, you know we’re not known for brewing small beers – that said, we wanted a clean sessionable beer to share as the warm summer months approached us. We were inspired by the Trappist tradition of the Belgian Single. Brother’s Bier is a SMaSH beer brewed from Pilsen malt and Sterling hops, and fermented to a nice dry finish with our traditional Trappist yeast strain. A late hop addition of Sterling adds a bit of spicy, citrusy hop aroma and flavor to the quintessential fruity-spicy yeast character of a classic Belgian Single.” While not listed as an official Beer Week event, this beer will be pouring at this Saturday’s SMaSH Fest.
Central Oregon Beer Week continues, with today’s official event Beertography 101 taking place at Beer Stop in Redmond with Matthew Ward, AKA Bend Brew Daddy: “Learn how to take better beer photos to post on Facebook and Instagram! Join Matthew (Bend Brew Daddy) for a Beertography Mini-Sesh! Amazing beer will be on tap, as well as cans and bottles to practice your new photo skills on!”
Ecliptic Brewing (Portland) announced its newest summer seasonal, Tucana Tangerine Sour Ale. From the press release: Summer is nearly here, and Ecliptic Brewing is ready to help quench customers’ thirst with its new seasonal series beer: Tucana Tangerine Sour Ale, which is available late May through mid-August. Pale and wheat malts help create a crisp, tart beer, while Cascade hops complement the citrus notes and burst of tangerine flavor. Tucana Tangerine Sour Ale will first launch at a release party at Ecliptic’s restaurant on Friday, May 24th. It will also be released in both draft and six-pack cans throughout Ecliptic Brewing’s distribution network.”
Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Tuesdays are Community Pints days at the Deschutes locations, where $1 from every pint is donated to a non-profit organization. In Bend for the month of May, the downtown Pub and the Tasting Room are benefiting the High Desert Food & Farm Alliance, while in Portland, the Portland Pub is benefiting Kinship House of Portland.
Oregon City Brewing has its weekly Charity Pint Night today starting at 5pm, where the brewery will be donating $1 per pint to the Oregon City Parks Foundation: “We will use our proceeds to create accessible playgrounds, plant trees, build beautiful gardens, host free events, protect our wildlife, and institute scholarships, which will give children the opportunity to participate in summer parks programs and so much more. The Oregon City Parks Foundation will be there to create opportunities to enhance our parks and enrich our city and its citizens’ quality of life through promotion of art, history, nature, and recreation.”
A bunch of McMenamins locations are hosting Friends & Family Night fundraisers today starting at 5pm, where 50% of the evening’s proceeds get donated to a local organization. Here’s the rundown:

Portland Cider Company is releasing several of its ciders in 19.2-ounce “stovepipe” cans, to “honor the proper pint.” From the press release: “Portland Cider Co., which is known for making cider based on English traditions with Northwest ingredients, has announced the release of six of its most popular ciders in 19.2-ounce cans. The single serving ciders are ideal for a 20-ounce imperial pint glass, known in the U.K. as a “proper pint.” The products available in the new size include Portland Cider’s two original flagships, Kinda Dry and Sorta Sweet; its fruity Sangria, made with seven different Northwest-grown fruits; Hop’ Rageous, featuring Citra and Amarillo hops; Concord Grape, the company’s popular winter seasonal which will now be available year-round; and Pineapple Rosé, Portland Cider’s current seasonal that’s bursting with juicy, fresh pineapples and a touch of Oregon blueberry juice.”
