Oregon Beer News, 05/02/2012
Yes, I skipped a day on the Oregon Beer News posts; my day just got away from me yesterday (lots of things going on!) so I figure the OBN took a “May Day”! But it’s back today and as usual I’ll be updating it periodically throughout the day with the latest news as I come across it, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I will get it posted.
Eugene Beer Week starts in less that a week, on Monday May 7, and they’re lining up a nice slate of events to last through the 13th, including the annual Sasquatch Brewfest on Saturday the 12th. This is the second year for the EBW, of many more to come, and you should try to get over there to check out some of the events for the Week!
The Green Dragon (Portland) has a Green Dragon Brew Crew release today starting at 5pm, featuring Dangerous Blonde Belgian Ale: “1st place winner in the Belgian Strong category at the 2012 Slurp & Burp competition, this Belgian Blonde Ale boasts a nice golden color with a big white lacey head and has aromas of the fruity Ardennes yeast along with hints of coriander, coconut, and some bubble gum as it warms. Added to the kettle was coriander, bitter orange peel, grains of paradise, Saaz hops, and Thai palm sugar.” It’s 7.5% abv.
Bend Brewing (Bend) has their latest beer, a collaboration brew with Chip Hardy of The Bier Stein in Eugene, on tap now: “’ONE LOUDAH’ IPA is now on tap!!! ‘This IPA goes to eleven’. Brewed with guest brewer Chip Hardy, owner of The Bier Stein in Eugene, Or. This NW IPA is double dry hopped, and full of tangerine, and grapefruit aroma. It has a crisp hop bitterness and light malt body. 7.5% ABV, 80 IBUs” I need to see about filling a growler of that.
Alameda Brewing (Portland) has their limited run Cask Wednesday today with an interesting-sounding beer: “We’re tapping our Huckelberry Hound(berry infused IPA) with 2lbs of fresh strawberries added to the keg! When it’s gone, it’s gone!”
Coalition Brewing (Portland): They have their three bottled beers at The Hop & Vine for a tasting from 6 to 8pm tonight. If you haven’t had a chance to try these yet it would be a great time to do so!
Falling Sky Brewing (Eugene): Eugene’s newest brewery has added a new beer to their lineup: “Trouble Everyday ISA, an India Session Ale- like hops do ya? Made with the same amount of hops as our IPA but with less alcohol, this is a hop delivery vehicle when you still need to drive home.” From their website I see this beer has 80 IBUs but only 4% abv! That really is a session ale!
