Oregon Beer News, 05/06/2016
Happy Friday! I hope your Cinco de Mayo went well. Here’s the news in Oregon beer for the weekend of May 6. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please let me know and I can get that updated as well.
Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Today (Friday) is the release for their latest Reserve Series beer, Pinot Suave. It’s a strong Belgian style ale aged in French Pinot Noir wine barrels with Pinot grape must, which definitely sounds interesting! Deschutes is celebrating with release parties at the Bend pub and the Portland pub, with culinary specials, tastings, and bottles for sale of course. In Bend it’s also First Friday so there will be art and live music as well. Be there!
Cascade Brewing (Portland): This first Friday Cascade is releasing the first of a series of Vertical Boxed Sets, and this is something you’ll want to check out: “Each release will feature 100 4-packs that will contain bottles of a single brand from each of the past four years’ releases: 2012, 21013, 2014 and 2015. The first release will be Kriek and will take place at opening on Friday, May 6th. Kriek is a blend of sour red ales aged in oak wine barrels for up to 17 months with Bing and sour pie cherries. One of our flagship products, Kriek features complex flavors of cherries, roast malts, oak and spice. Look for future releases on the first Friday of each month.” The release begins at noon Friday.
The Salem Cinco de Micro Brewfest continues this weekend, Friday and Saturday, at the Salem Convention Center. They say: “The fifth annual Cinco de Micro Brewfest, featuring your favorite local and northwest brews, local eateries and distilleries, musical entertainment and the unique opportunity to taste hard to find, spring release brews.” Entry fee is $15 for the mug and two tasting tokens, with additional tokens $1 each. If you’re in the Salem area check it out this weekend.
Roseburg Beer Week starts this weekend, on Saturday the 7th, and will run through the following Saturday. The first event on Saturday (tomorrow) is the Hammer N’Ales Brewfest, taking place at the Seven Feathers Casino Resort: “Kick-off event for RBW+ and fundraiser for Umpqua Valley Habitat for Humanity, featuring over 60 local and regional craft beers and live music, headlined by Smash Mouth. Enjoy Tomaselli’s Wood Fired Pizza and Smokin’ Friday BBQ. Also, door prizes, cash drawing, and contests. Shuttle buses from Roseburg High School to and from the Canyonville event.”
And then on Sunday the 8th, the RBW event will be a tap takeover at Loggers Tap House in the evening: “Lookingglass Brewer Mark Nunnelee will be premiering four of his amazing beers not yet available on the market.”
Golden Valley Brewery (McMinnville) is doing a tap takeover this Friday at Growler’s Public House in Tigard from 6 to 9pm: “Join us Friday, May 6th from 6-9pm to taste 3-4 of Golden Valleys most premium craft beers. We’ve selected the taps for this Friday’s Golden Valley Tap Takeover… BEAVERTON BLONDE, BALD PEAK IPA, WHISKEY BARREL AGED DUNDEE PORTER, and BOURBON BARREL AGED MUDDY VALLEY STOUT. All pints $5, $5 Sample Trays (4) 4oz Samples”
The Growler Guys Eastside Bend location is hosting Bend’s 10 Barrel Brewing on Friday for a tasting event from 5 to 7pm. “We will be tapping 6 awesome beers, 1 delicious cider and serving up some fresh Growler Guys pizza! Check out tonight’s lineup: Power to the People Stout, Locals Only IPA, Riding Solo Pale Ale, Monsieur Canard Saison, Strawberry Crush, Cucumber Crush, and Bubbly Hard Cider. 10 Barrel is bringing cool giveaways such as t-shirts, hats, keychains and more!”
Vertigo Brewing (Hillsboro): Friday at 4pm they are tapping a special barrel-aged version of a beer they call Super Dude: “One keg of Super Dude Russian Imperial Stout, aged in Big Bottom Distilling bourbon barrels has been located in the depths of the walk in cooler. We will be tapping this at 4:00 on Friday May 6th and pour until gone. It won’t last long.”
Eugene’s 16 Tons Taphouse & Bottleshop is celebrating their sixth anniversary this weekend, with a limited-edition beer release and a tap takeover from Corvallis’ Block 15 Brewery. The beer Block 15 brewed is: “Funky Hands is a hazy, juicy deliciously hoppy IPA fermented with Brett and dry hopped with hops selected by two of 16 Tons finest. Pours a hazy dark orange with a ridiculous citrus aroma and juicy mouthfeel!” Stop in this Saturday or Sunday to wish 16 Tons a happy birthday!
Portland’s Stammtisch German pub is celebrating their own second anniversary with a “Maifest” party on Saturday the 7th: “Thanks for making Stammtisch both fun and a huge success. To celebrate, we are throwing an awesome Maifest party. We will have Maibocks on draft, house-made Maiwein and Chef Graham Chaney will be making Lamb Doner Kebabs on a spit Rotisserie. Additionally, as a thank you to the Stein Club Members that make our pub special , we will be offering bier discounts to all who wear there Stammtisch Stein Club Gear.” Congrats!
