Oregon Beer News, 05/08/2015
Happy Friday! I hope you have plans for the weekend, but if you’re still deciding check out the beer news to help you figure it out. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please let me know and I can get that updated as well.
Portland’s Cheers to Belgian Beers kicks off today! Hard to believe this event is already in its ninth year, and it’s become of the must-attend fests Portland has to offer every year. “The Belgian-style Beer Festival will feature a single yeast strain, Wyeast Laboratories Yeast Strain: 1762 | Belgian Abbey II™ for the beers entered, with the beers available determined by a dart throw to diversify the color and strength of the beers. The 2015 Cheers to Belgian Beers currently features 60 beers from 57 brewing companies.” It takes place at MCF Craft Brewing Systems from 5 to 9pm today and noon to 8pm tomorrow (Saturday). Admission is free, with $15 for the glass and five tickets (additional tickets are $1). Don’t miss out!
Wild Ride Brewing (Redmond) is celebrating their first anniversary Saturday the 9th, all day long with beer specials (including a special bourbon barrel aged Brain Bucket Imperial IPA!) and live music starting at 5pm. I was lucky enough to attend their official opening last year, and I’m just as impressed with their beer and what they’ve accomplished now as I was then. Big congrats to Wild Ride! One year down and many more to come!
Worthy Brewing (Bend) is continuing to roll out their new Prefunk Pale Ale (in cans), with back-to-back events today and tomorrow. First, tonight they will be at Bend’s Broken Top Bottle Shop for the Bend release party: “Worthy will be pouring samples of Prefunk Pale and Farmout Saison from 5 – 8 pm! Plus we’ll have a Tap Takeover with Prefunk, Farmout and just announced… Le Peche (their Belgian peach ale)!” Along with live music from 7 to 9 and free giveaways it’ll be a great night!
And tomorrow Worthy will be at The Bier Stein in Eugene, from 6 to 9pm with their own tasting party that sounds like a blast: “Join our rep from Worthy in a Cornhole tournament this Saturday! We’re partying with the release of Pre-Funk Pale Ale and a new Saison, and will have a firkin of Pre-Funk dry “hopped” with juniper berries.”
Deschutes Brewery (Bend) is hosting the “soft opening” of their new Street Pub, their giant mobile bar that they are going to be touring around the country, Saturday the 9th at their production brewery in Bend from 5 to 10pm. The bar is over 400 feet long and “is crafted from reclaimed wood and steel from right here in Oregon and the Street Pub is a one stop shop to try lots of our beers – from the coveted Reserve Series rarities (think The Abyss) all the way to year-round favorites like Black Butte Porter and Mirror Pond Pale Ale.” They’ll have 40 beers on tap, live music, and food of course, and it is open and free for all ages. I’ll be there—of course.
Pelican Pub & Brewery (Pacific City) is doing a Brewer’s Dinner with Cooper Spur Mountain Resort (on Mt. Hood) tomorrow (Saturday), teaming up for a five-course meal with beer pairings for only $39 (that’s a great deal!). You can see the PDF menu here.
