Oregon Beer News, 05/11/2016
Happy Hump Day once again! Here is the Oregon beer news for this Wednesday, May 11; as usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Lompoc Brewing (Portland): Tonight at the Lompoc Tavern on NW 23rd Avenue they are hosting Sour Power Night as well as the release of 2012 Black Mamba starting at 4pm. “The evening features the release of 2012 Black Mamba, aged for two years in Heaven Hill Distillery bourbon barrels with 45 pounds of sour cherries. Pitch black in color with an aroma of tobacco, leather and cherries, it has flavors of chocolate, oak and cherry, finishing with a slight sourness. We’ll also be offering taster trays with 2013 Cherry Gold, 2013 Fleming Red, 2013 Cherry Christmas, 2013 Dark Ages Sour Porter and Black Mamba (beers also available individually by the glass).” There’s a three course meal to accompany the sours, so if you’re a sour beer fan you need to check this one out.
Roseburg Beer Week continues today, with a Beer & Tapas Pairing at Salud Restaurant & Brewery at 6pm: “Showcasing our palate pleasing beers, impeccably paired with three delicious tapas. Enjoy live music by Tory Rose as well. Tickets $30 per person. Reservations only: 541.673.1574.”
And then at O’Toole’s Pub they have a Q & Ales Trivia Contest starting at 7pm: “Test your RBK–Roseburg Beer Knowledge–and learn a little about the beer here and the other beer there.”
Boardman’s Ordnance Brewing will be in Portland at Belmont Station today, from 5 to 7pm, for a meet the brewer event: “Ordnance Brewing is named for a ghost town that’s close to the brewery in eastern Oregon! Meet brewer Ryan Kreps and enjoy a pint or two with him! We will be pouring two rare Ordnance drafts: –Dragon Force, a Dark Belgian Strong Ale brewed as a collaboration with Walla Walla’s Dragon’s Gate Brewery. It’s brewed with roasted anise seed, lemon grass, and brown sugar. –Saison Af Urt, a blend of four different saisons brewed and aged independently in red wine barrels with natural bacteria and inoculated with brettanomyces. It is a complex, crisp Saison with the bright acid layers and layered herbal and spice tones.”
And Ordnance recently issued a press release to announce that they “signed a distribution agreement with General Distributors and begun converting their sibling company taproom, Neighbor Dudes in Wilsonville, to Ordnance Brewing Taproom.” Big news, and I’m glad to see their success. Additionally: “With growing awareness and demand for Ordnance beers the team decided it is time for the brewery to have a home in the Willamette Valley. Converting the sibling company, Neighbor Dudes, Wilsonville, Oregon taproom into Ordnance Brewing Taproom was the logical move. The taproom remains open to the public. The rebranding of the site should be completed by the end of May, with plans of a relaunch on the evening of June 18.”
McMenamins Thompson Brewery (Salem) has their Savor in Salem Beer Tasting going on today from 3 to 5pm, featuring Roads End CDA: “He’d been coming to our pub for 25 years. Swinging the door open with his own unique style, briefcase in hand and always a good morning with a nod of the head. It took me months to understand his heavy Czech accent, though his quick “Ha” of laughter was easily identifiable. We lost him suddenly. One day he was here, the next he wasn’t. On this day, his son Jakub was at home brewing. In his honor we present this CDA that flamed off just as Jindrich left us. Don’t let the dark body of this ale fool you. This medium bodied CDA is highly drinkable and balanced. We aren’t overwhelming you with a bitter profile but more of a balanced hop profile, full of big bodied aroma and flavor. The Black Wheat helps darken the body without adding big roast or coffee notes, but rather a fuller body on the palate. So many memories and stories.”
The Green Dragon (Portland): Their Green Dragon Brew Crew release today starting at 5pm is featuring a Belgian styled beer named Agent Moriarty: “Get an early start on this weekend’s Cheers To Belgian Beers Fest with a pint of Agent Moriarty, courtesy of the Green Dragon Brew Crew. Agent Moriarty is a Belgian Dark Strong, with rich and complex flavors reminiscent of raisins, plums and spice. The beers opens with some malty sweetness, but finishes moderately dry and balanced with a lingering warmth. Agent Moriarty is also the base for the Brew Crew’s entry into the Cheers To Belgian Beers Fest. They promise to release a special version of the beer just for the festival. Drop by the Green Dragon Thursday for a pint of Agent Moriarty and then head off to the festival this weekend to try it again. This is a beer worthy of a second taste.”
7 Devils Brewing (Coos Bay): Tonight from 5 to 8pm they are hosting a tasting and benefit for the Oregon Brewshed® Alliance: “Come down to 7 Devil’s Brewing Co.’s pub in downtown Coos Bay (247 S. 2nd St.), try the new Tall Ship Vanilla Stout, and support the Oregon Brewshed® Alliance! From 5:00 to 8:00pm, enjoy live jazz from local band Night Shift, and learn more about efforts to protect Oregon’s forests and waters from Oregon Wild and Coast Range Forest Watch. 25% of gross sales of the Tall Ship Vanilla Stout for the whole day will go to the Oregon Brewshed Alliance.”
