Oregon Beer News, 05/14/2015
Here’s the Oregon beer news from around the web for Thursday, the 14th of May. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Tonight is the release party for Terminal Gravity Brewing‘s new Pre-Prohibition-style Pilsner, Wallowa Lake Lager, taking place in Portland at the White Owl Social Club. It’s a free party starting at 6pm, with “free tastings, swag giveaways and fun games”—be sure to swing by to check out this newest beer from one of Eastern Oregon’s best breweries.
Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting a cider tasting with Vermont’s Woodchuck Cider tonight from 5 to 7pm: “How much cider can a Woodchuck … ? Oh, never mind! Let’s just enjoy the fact that Lauren from Vermont’s Woodchuck Cider will be pouring a selection of their award-winning ciders, including Gumption, their latest year-round offering, plus Cheeky Cherry, from Woodchuck’s Out on a Limb series, and their cancer fundraising cider, Pink.”
McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale) has a beer I’d very much love to sample at their limited-edition beer tasting today: Miami Weisse Pineapple Berliner Weisse. “In an alternate world where Dolph Lundgren beat out Don Johnson to be cast as Detective James Crockett, the style of the ‘80s was ‘Leiderhosen and Armani jacket’ instead of ‘t-shirt and Armani jacket’ and the beer that Sonny and Rico would reach for at the end of another day solving crime was Miami Weisse. Miami Weisse is a light, sour traditional German wheat beer with a South Beach twist of pineapple sweetness to make it the perfect warm weather thirst slayer.” As usual, starts at 5pm and lasts until the beer is gone.
The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting Bend’s 10 Barrel Brewing for a “Crush’n It & Meet the Brewer” event tonight from 5 to 8pm: “10 Barrel is known for several things around here, including their simultaneously mouth-puckering and thirst-quenching sour beers. Meet one of the main brains behind these tart treats, Tonya Cornett! On tap will be: Strawberry Crush, Cucumber Crush, Blackberry Crush, Lemon Crush, and an IPA collaboration with Elysian, in case you need a palate cleanser.”
Roseburg Beer Week continues with a variety of events today: Cask Beer Tasting, 3 to 11 pm @ Draper’s Draft House; Arch Rock Brewing Tap Takeover @ Loggers Tap House; Beer and Food Pairing, Black Bird Bistro; and Nightly Dinner Special @ O’Toole’s Pub.
Hopworks Urban Brewery (Portland): They have a new beer on tap to tell you about: “We have a very special beer on tap. It’s made with the letter S, a different S and consummate V’s. It’s a dark Belgian Abbey Ale, aged on Madeira infused American oak with just enough warmth for burninating the countryside. Welcome Strong Bad the Belgianator!”
Full Sail Brewing (Hood River) has been cranking out the Session series beers lately! The newest to be released is their Session Cream Summer Ale: “It’s a classic American beer in a classic American bottle just in time to celebrate American Craft Beer Week (May 11-17). This golden ale has a creamy head and a smooth, sweet disposition – just the ticket on a hot summer’s day. Session Cream Ale pours with a rich golden hue with aromas of citrus and herbal hops backed with a smooth malty/sweet mid-palate, finishing cleanly with hints of citrus and caramel. Session Cream is available in 12-packs and on nitro-draft all summer long. ABV 5.4%, IBU 26.” One to keep an eye out for.
Pfriem Family Brewers (also Hood River) has a (new?) beer of their own on tap now (to be honest, I can’t remember if this is a new batch of one that’s been out before: “Escape from the daily grind and enjoy our pFriem Down Under IPA now on tap! Close your eyes and imagine you are burying your feet on an warm Australian beach or taking in the epic New Zealand countryside. Now sip that bright copper pFriem Down Under IPA with aromas of kiwi and fresh flavors of strawberry jam and passionfruit…Ahh cheers mate!”
