Oregon Beer News, 05/15/2017
Happy Monday—I hope your weekend and your Mother’s Day was a good one! Time to get back into the swing of the Oregon beer news for a new week. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. If you have news to share, please let me know and I can get that updated as well.
Widmer Brothers Brewing (Portland) is celebrating Hefe Day all day long at their pub, reveling in their classic American wheat ale: “Last year, the city of Portland officially declared May 15th Hefe Day! This year, we’re taking over the brewery and pub to celebrate the holiday. Join us for $1 Hefes, $3 Hefe varietals, Hefe flights, food and live music from Ice Queens starting at 5pm! Free admission. All ages welcome. Can’t join us Monday? We’ll be celebrating Hefe all week long. Stop in through Friday for $3 Hefes and Hefe Small Batches, $6 six packs of Hefe and $6 Crowlers of Hefe or Hefe varietals! We’ll be closing out the celebrations on Friday with live music from The Fourth Wall at 5pm.” I would definitely be there if I could.
Belmont Station (Portland): Tonight from 5 to 8pm they have a Founders beer tasting featuring their new brown: “Founders will pour FREE samples of their entire portfolio. That’s 7 different beers! WOW! Plus, their new Sumatra Brown (brewed with Sumatra coffee) will be on draft in our taproom. And, of course, all the Founders including the new Sumatra Brown, will be available to take home!”
One that slipped by me last week: Oregon City’s Coin Toss Brewing is expanding their taproom hours. From the release: The Coin Toss Taproom is now open six days a week, from Tuesday through Sunday; prior to this, the taproom was only open Thursday through Sunday. New hours are Tuesday through Friday from 3pm to 8pm; Saturday from 12pm to 8pm; and Sunday from 12pm to 6pm. ‘We’ve been hearing from customers and the community alike that they’d like to see our OPEN sign on more days,’ said Coin Toss Brewing founder Tim Hohl. ‘We are thrilled to oblige and look forward to seeing our thirsty regulars and new faces six days a week.'”
Chetco Brewing (Brookings): They are celebrating their 2nd anniversary of their taproom today! “It’s our birthday so we’re having a party! To celebrate the 2nd birthday of our Tap Room, come by all week for food, beer & fun!” They’re planning live music, beer specials, and a vegan cupcake contest throughout the week.
Great Notion Brewing (Portland): Crowler day! Today it’s Ripe IPA: “2 crowlers per person, 200 total. Ripe IPA is a juicy, hazy IPA heavily focused on showcasing Citra hops.”
Deschutes Brewery has a new year-round beer out, American Wheat, their first-ever packaged foray into the style, and this week they are celebrating the release all week long at the Bend Pub and the Portland Pub. “In conjunction with American Craft Beer Week, we present an exciting new addition to our main line family—American Wheat! What was once originally brewed in small batches at our pubs, this crowd-pleasing American-style ale delivers a tempting citrus aroma and a light wheat character. Perfect for enjoyment in these upcoming warmer months!” They’ll be serving up American Wheat food specials all week long and of course plenty of the beer.
