Oregon Beer News, 05/17/2012
Here’s the Oregon beer news for Thursday, May 17. As always I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for updates; and if you have news you’d like to share please contact me so I can get it updated.
The Green Dragon (Portland) is hosting a meet the brewer tonight featuring Bend’s 10 Barrel Brewing and brewer Shawn Kelso: the beers will be tapped at 5pm, and the meet the brewer portion starts at 6. The beers that Kelso is bringing are Sinistor Black Ale, India Session Ale (ISA), Apocalypse IPA (the new tweaked recipe I believe), Oregon Brown Ale (seasonal), and the new Small Tank series Cynical CDA. Should be a good evening!
Full Sail Brewing (Hood River): Today is the Hood River brewpub’s release party and meet the brewer for Allman’s All Mild, from 5 to 6:30pm: “Allman’s All Mild is a beautiful light copper colored English Mild Ale, using a blend of 2-row Pale, Munich, English crystal and brown malts that provide a toasty biscuit character and a dry and balanced finish. Golding and Willamette hops impart an herbal aroma and subtle hop finish that complements the malt complexity. The ale’s low carbonation delivers an incredibly refreshing and light beer perfect for summertime enjoyment. ABV 4.1% IBU 25” The beer was crafted by lead Lab Technician Joshua Allman to help kick off American Craft Beer Week.
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Today is the release of their newly-bottled Sang Noir at 4:30pm today at the Barrel House (note that Figaro in that Facebook post is not available yet). Sang Noir is a “blend of red ales that were aged in oak and Bourbon barrels for 12 months before aging on fresh Bing and sour pie cherries for an additional six months” that is $21 per 750ml bottle.
Silver Moon Brewing (Bend) is in Portland tonight for a meet the brewer event at Birra Deli (actually out in Tualatin) from 6:30 to 8:30. “We’ll be serving up our NEW GETSUM Pale Ale and HOPNOB IPA as well as handing out some SilverMoon goodies!”
Beer Valley Brewing (Ontario): For American Craft Beer Week, Beer Valley is having growler specials you won’t want to pass up: “We are open on Thursday and Friday from 2 pm to 6 pm and on Saturday from 11 to 3 pm. Beers on tap this week for growler fills include Black Flag Imperial Stout, Black Madness, Leafer Madness, and Pigskin Pale Ale.”
Ninkasi Brewing (Eugene) is debuting this year’s Radiant Summer Ale tonight at Concordia Ale House in Portland from 5 to 8pm. Folks heading over there are in for an additional treat: “Also pouring will be Ninkasi’s Babylon Double IPA – one of only 10 kegs in Portland!”
Big congrats to Pelican Pub & Brewery (Pacific City) for winning Champion Small International Brewery at the Australian International Beer Awards! Their Doryman’s Dark Ale was awarded “Best Amber/Dark Ale” as well.
And in looking further at tha AIBA site, I see a couple of other Oregon breweries brought home awards as well: Deschutes Brewery, Champion Large International Brewery; and Caldera Brewing, Best IPA for their Caldera IPA. Good job all!
