Here is the news in beer from around Oregon for Thursday, May 19. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
Baker City’s Barley Brown’s Beer will be in Portland tonight for a massive tap takeover at The Green Dragon—featuring 25 beers! “Brewer Tyler Brown and the gang from Barley Brown’s Beer in Baker City roll into the Green Dragon this week for one of our biggest tap takeovers yet. We are dedicating 25 our our taps to Barley’s finest brews. This is one tap takeover you won’t want to miss!” Now that is how you do a tap takeover! Beers are tapped at 5pm, and Tyler Brown will speak at 6.
Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting Bend’s Deschutes Brewery tonight for a release party for the brewery’s Reserve Series Pinot Suave: “Aged 18 months in French and American oak barrels that previously held Pinot Noir, this is a unique Belgian-style ale with notes of Pinot grape, berries and dried fruit along with light malt and caramel flavors. We will be pouring this new offering from Deschutes along with Descendant, a younger sibling of The Dissident that is their first beer fermented entirely with brettanomyces, racked it into oak casks with fresh Oregon blackberries.” It takes place from 5 to 7pm.
Portland’s Awesome Ales will be at Portland’s Howl ‘n Growl Filling Station for a small tap takeover and meet the brewer event tonight from 6 to 9pm: “Awesome Ales will do a small Tap Takeover on Thursday Night 5/19 @ Howl & Growl. Come meet the Brewer, David Lederfine and hear stories from his 22-year odyssey in Oregon Craft Brewing … We will be pouring 3 new beers: Age of Ostara Apricot Saison; Bicycle Day IPA; and Rambler Lager.”
North Rim Brewing (Bend): They have taken over the brewpub space in Bend’s Old Mill District formerly occupied by the original Rat Hole Brewpub (Rat Hole is now based in Sunriver). They posted an update about it on Facebook—which makes it official, right? “What’s in a name? That which we call a BREW PUB by any other name will…still offer up great beer, great food, and the home-town vibe you want! Rat Hole Brew Pub is now North Rim, and although our name is new, everything you love about YOUR local brew pub is just the way you like it. See you soon!”
Rogue Ales (Newport) announced the upcoming release of their honey-based libations this week, bottles to watch for—from the press release: “Rogue Ales celebrates its 7,140,289 honeybees with the release of Honey Kolsch and Marionberry Braggot, both made with honey foraged from Rogue Farms spring nectar sources including marionberry, cherry, jalapeño, cucumber, pumpkins and wildflower blossoms. The unique flavor found in this spring’s honey harvest is highlighted in both beer and braggot. Honey Kolsch and Marionberry Braggot will be available beginning in June.
