Oregon Beer News, 05/31/2017
Here’s the news and events in Oregon beer for this final day of May. (That means summer begins, right? Right?) As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
As of today, Portland’s Kells Brew Pub is officially rebranded itself as Kells Brewery, with a new logo and overall design. From the press release: “Kells Brew Pub, located at 201 NW 21st Ave., has rebranded itself as Kells Brewery, including the introduction of a new logo, an updated website, and renamed social media handles. Originally established in August of 2012, Kells Brewery has seen massive success over the last five years. Its original intent was to produce three styles of beer in-house for the Kells restaurants in Portland and Seattle. Today, the 10-barrel brewhouse has a standard lineup of eight year-round styles, a number of seasonals, and 500ml bottles of its IPA and Irish Red Ale on shelves at bottles shops and specialty grocery stores across town. The 10-barrel stainless steel brewhouse produced more than 1,200 barrels of beer in 2016, and is on track to produce over 1,400 this year.”
McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse (Hillsboro) has their Roadhouse Refreshments beer tasting tonight from 6 to 9pm, featuring a pair of collaboration beers: Buckwheat Honey Pilsner: “Cornelius Pass Roadhouse Brewery & Greg Mason of Boarfish. Buckwheat Honey Pilsner is the result of a collaboration between Cornelius Pass Roadhouse Brewery and Greg Mason of Boarfish. A long time club favorite, this lager gets its its sweet, tangy finish from the distinct flavor of Buckwheat Honey. Loved by local home brewers for years, it is now available to the greater community!” And, Citra Blonde: “This beer was brewed for our Pro/Am, which stands for Professional/Amateur, by Roadhouse Brewer Chris Oslin and his accomplished homebrewer friend Jeremy Speer. Jeremy writes, ‘After experiencing the welcoming embrace of toasty Vienna Malt and quick kiss of Citra Hops that this Blonde has to offer, you’ll be smitten by this gorgeous well-balanced lady. I mean ale… it’s a well balanced ale.'”
The Beer Party PDX and The BeerMongers are throwing a fundraiser for the Beer Party, presented by Montavilla Brew Works, tonight from 5 to 8pm. “We’re big supporters of Beer Party PDX and we hope you are too. Let’s show our appreciation for all of their hard work.”
Rogue‘s Portland Eastside Pub and Pilot Brewery in Portland has their Green Dragon Brew Crew release today at 5pm, featuring Drunken Minotaur: “Little known fact: Theseus actually used this beer to defeat the minotaur! We used Medusa’s head, all belgian pale malt, hallertau, and Styrian Golding hops to bring down the minotaur with this classic belgian dark strong ale. Cheers! 9% ABV 30 IBU”
Also today in Newport, at Rogue‘s Brewers on the Bay location, they are hosting “The Rogue Hop Experience” beer dinner from 6 to 8pm: “This ground-to-glass five-course pairing takes you through the eight varietals of hops grown at Rogue Farms hopyard with five distinct IPAs each paired with a dish to highlight the beer and food.
