Oregon Beer News, 06/12/2018
How’s your Tuesday? Ready for some beer news? I’ve got Oregon’s beer news rounded up for this second day of the week, June 12, and as usual I’ll be updating this post periodically throughout the day, so check back in from time to time. Have news to share? Let me know!
Cascade Brewing (Portland) is hosting its very first Bee Fest today, featuring sour beers made with honey. “We are buzzing with excitement to announce our new Bee Fest that will take place starting at Noon on June 12th at the Barrel House and the Lodge at Cascade Brewing! The event lineup will feature seven honey beers: Honey Ginger Lime, Honeycot, Honey Teapot, Mulled Apple Sour (served cold), Bees Knees, Desert Bloom and Orange Blossom; plus an eighth live barrel project — a Buckwheat Honey Beer — that will be tapped at 6pm at the Barrel House. The event is a benefit for Portland Urban Beekeepers.” With sours at both Cascade locations there is plenty of opportunity to partake.
Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Every Tuesday is Community Pints day as the Deschutes locations, where $1 from every pint sold benefits a local non-profit organization. In Bend for the month of June, Deschutes is benefiting the High Desert Farm and Food Alliance, and in Portland the Pub benefits Children First of Oregon. Get down to one of the pubs and help out with a pint or three today.
Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting a meet the brewmaster event today, with Matt Brynildson of Firestone Walker Brewing: “We are bringing out a LOT of great Firestone Walker beers from the cellar for this one! Come meet and chat with one of the most highly lauded craft brewers in the world! From 5-8 PM, Matt will be on site, talking with friends and fans, and, of course, enjoying some great Firestone Walker beers! Buy a Firestone Walker bottle in the shop and Matt will sign it for you! (Sorry, no outside bottles allowed, just to keep things simple.) Matt’s one of the nicest, most humble guys around, so we know it will be a great time!”

And that’s not even all of the ongoing daily events listed here.
Time to start thinking about Kriekfest, the annual cherry beer festival coming up next month on July 28 in Hood River! Tickets are on sale now, and through June 30 the $40 price gets you the commemorative glass and 25 drink tickets—a pretty good deal. It takes place at Hood River Waterfront Park from 11am to 7pm, and is all-ages-friendly.
Yachats Brewing has a Tepache on tap now: “Have you ever had this magic elixir before? Tepache is an absolutely delicious, fermented, spiced wild pineapple soda, primarily made from the peel and rind of pineapples! Feel free to read that again, and don’t worry about a little drool on your phone or keyboard… Get in here and grab some before we run out!”
Three Mugs Brewing (Hillsboro) has two beers back on tap to check out: “The Shaka Haze is back on! If you weren’t at the luau this last Saturday, you have to try this sometime before it’s gone. It’s our hazy IPA with guava and passionfruit! Also, the Obsession for Session IPA is back on! Two great refreshing IPAs for this sunny day! Not only do we we have AC to keep cool, but it’s also Human Appreciation Day. That means it’s a dollar off all beers, all day!”
10 Barrel Brewing (Bend) has a new specialty beer coming out next week that’s also a fundraiser: “All beer is created equal, so Tonya brewed LGBTQIPA. It’s a is a bright, juicy, full flavored Hazy IPA that’s unabashedly itself. Brewed with loads of Nugget, Amarillo, and Mosaic hops, it’s truly everything you want in an IPA. ABV 7%. Look for LGBTQIPA at our pubs next week. Fun Fact: We’re donating $1 per pint to GLAAD.”
Portland’s Look Long Brewing has canned up its first beers, and those are available now: “Alright! We’ve got these two beers canned, labeled, and ready to go away from here. This first batch (being special and all) is going for $4/can, and $15 for a 4-pack. The Gnome Fighter IPA and the Hard Cut Common are our first two beers canned as we try out our labels and whatnot, so feel free to throw some feedback at us. There aren’t a lot of them, so this week will probably be a good time to stop in.”
