Oregon Beer News, 06/13/2018
Midweek (and nearly mid-month) and the weekend is getting closer… here’s the news in Oregon beer for this Wednesday, June 13. As usual I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back in from time to time. And of course feel free to share anything with me as well!
The Bier Stein (Eugene) is Tapping Into Community today with a Pint Night fundraiser for ShelterCare starting at 5pm: “Join us at the on Wednesday, June 13th as we tap into community with ShelterCare & 2 Towns Ciderhouse. Stop by between 5pm-8pm to enjoy a special craft cider, meet ShelterCare employees, and enter to win some very awesome raffle prizes! On this evening of June 13th, your purchase of a pint of 2 Towns Ciderhousewill benefit ShelterCare in helping residents of Lane County overcome homelessness, gain access to mental health resources, and create more stable futures. We hope to see you there!”
Portland Beer Week events continue today, and at the risk of offending anyone looking for the various events to attend, I’m only going to focus on the unique, one-day events in the rest of these roundups. To get a good idea of why, check out the events calendar page for today—29 events! Many of those are repeating and I’ve covered them here already. So, here are the “main” events for the day:

Apex Bar (Portland) has a cool event that I don’t know if it’s part of beer week or not: Firestone and Friends. “This Wednesday (06/13/18) we will be welcoming brewers from Boneyard, Wayfinder, and Firestone Walker and tapping 21 beers to celebrate! This event is going to be amazing! Come down and drink some great beers with us and meet some of your favorite brewers! All special beers along with the rest of our regular line up available at open (11:30am) on Wednesday.”

Hopworks Urban Brewery (Portland) has a new beer release tonight for Strawberry Milkshake IPA. The beer debuted at last weekend’s Fruit Beer Fest: “The sun is heating up the streets and we’re getting thirsty! This milkshake IPA gets its foundation from Hazy IPAs. It’s fluffy and velvety in character from generous amounts of wheat and oats. We added huge amounts of berry-forward Galaxy and Vic Secret hops for flavor and aroma, and then fermented the beer with strawberries. Lactose was added for additional sweetness and a creamier mouthfeel. 7% ABV.” The release is from 5 to 8pm.
Hood River’s Big Horse Brew Pub apparently turns 30 today! “WOW! Time flys. We just turned 30! We will have a celebration this fall. Well keep you posted.” Not much more, but I had no idea Big Horse opened in 1988. Congrats!
