Oregon Beer News, 06/09/2015
Here’s the Oregon beer news for Tuesday, June 9. It’s going to be another scorcher, so stay cool while keeping up on the news. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
One of Deschutes Brewery‘s signature events of the year, their Barrel Aged Beer Tasting, is taking place this Friday, June 12 at their Mountain Room in Bend. This is a fantastic event for which Deschutes pulls out all the stops: “At our Barrel-Aged Beer Tasting, we will be featuring 8 of our finest handcrafted, barrel-aged brews. Ranging in styles from stouts to sours, each will be paired with a small plate of damn tasty food. Get your tickets to taste these amazing beers and tasty bites before they are gone!” The cost is $45 which is a great deal and a few tickets are still available here. Don’t miss this if you can help it!
The next Beers Made By Walking event is taking place this Friday in Bend, with Worthy Brewing, starting at 9am: “Beers Made By Walking presents a day hike in the Badlands Wilderness with Oregon Natural Desert Association and Worthy Brewing Company. We’ll meet at ONDA’s Bend office and carpool roughly 20 minutes to the trailhead together. Our 3-mile hiking trail in the Badlands is generally flat with some rocky terrain and slight elevation gain– perfect for any level of hiker. Bring sturdy shoes, lunch, plenty of water, a keen eye for flora and an appreciation for micro-brews.” There are still a few slots open and you can register online here.
McMenamins on Monroe (Corvallis) has a special beer release tonight from 5 to 9pm. No word (as of this writing) on what the featured beer will be, but I will update as needed.
Hopworks Urban Brewery (Portland): The latest release party for their new HUB Cider is taking place at The Hop & Vine today from 5 to 9pm. HUB’s new cider will be on tap, and they’ll have games, giveaways and more for the evening.
Brannon’s Pub & Brewery (Beaverton) has a new beer tapping party taking place today from 5 to 7pm: “Come by and try a sample of our new Deputation Imperial Red that was aged in an Indio Spirits, James Oliver Rye barrel. It is so good! The Deputation has a dry warmth of rye whiskey intermingled with scents of smoke and ripe cherries. Hints of dark caramel and rye malt complement the natural character of the charred oak barrel.”
Ex Novo Brewing (Portland) is doing a tap takeover at Portland’s Roman Candle Backing Company today starting at 4pm: “Come drink beer in the smallest beer garden in Portland! Ex Novo will be taking over our three taps + we will be serving up a special pizza to pair with their Most Interesting Mexican Lager!”
Bailey’s Taproom (Portland) is hosting a tap takeover at their Upper Lip with Dogfish Head Brewery from 4 to 10pm tonight: “If beer goes up to 10, Dogfish Head invented 11, and The Upper Lip is excited to prove it to you with six taps designed to wrestle your tastebuds into submission. DRAFT LIST: 2013 Olde School Barleywine, Festina Peche, Raison d’Extra, Sagittarius B2N (w/ Ecliptic), 90 Minute IPA, and 120 Minute IPA.”

A milder, summer version of our previously released “L’agent Orange,” this blend features flavors of fresh orange and coriander spice with a light malt presence and puckering acidity. 7.6% | $7.5 glass | $2.5 taster”
Plank Town Brewing (Springfield): Their beer special of the week is their ESB: “A well-balanced English-style amber ESB with the rich, roasted flavor of extra special malt and a pleasantly tangy finish. 32 IBU, 5.8% On special all week – cheers!”
16 Tons (Eugene) today is tapping a special beer from Corvallis’ Block 15: “Block 15 The Cardinal – a blend of young and old flanders red-style ales, aged in brandy barrels and conditioned on raspberries. Yum! Tapping the keg at 5pm!”
