Oregon Beer News, 06/10/2015
Happy Wednesday! I hope the week is going by quickly for you because just around the corner are a couple of Beer Weeks with a ton of beer events. Here’s the beer news for June 10; as usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Cascade Brewing (Portland) has a great-looking event today that makes me wish I could get to Portland in less than 3 hours (and not have to worry about work…): a Kriek Vertical Tasting. “After aging a small quantity of Kriek kegs in our cellar for up to four years, we are excited to announce the release of a rare four-year vertical flight of Kriek projects from 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. The vertical tasting will take place at the Barrel House beginning at Noon on Wednesday, while it lasts. Flight of all 4 vintages in 2 oz tasters: $11”
Hopworks Urban Brewery (Portland): Today they are celebrating the 4th anniversary of their BikeBar! “BikeBar is celebrating 4 years of business on Wednesday, June 10! Join us for all-day beer specials and our latest offerings: HUB Hard Cider, Totally Radler, and IPX Simcoe! Beer specials include $2.50 for core beers, $3.50 for Belgian-style, and $4.50 for Imperial beers!”
HUB is also jumping on the Radler bandwagon (not a bad thing) with the announcement of the release of their new Totally Radler which will be year-round in cans. “Totally Radler is a 50/50 blend of Hopworks’ award-winning Organic HUB Lager and organic lemon soda. The refreshing and thirst-quenching lemon soda complements HUB Lager’s delicate honey flavors and herbal hop aroma while maintaining it’s crisp malt backbone. At just 2.6% ABV, Totally Radler is a low-alcohol drink that keeps you cool.” They will additionally celebrate on June 22 (National Radler Day) with the “Radler Ride” release party at the BikeBar.
And Cascade is also releasing their Strawberry 2014 today: “Releasing our Strawberry 2014 on tap and in bottles today at both the Barrel House and Raccoon Lodge & Brewpub. This NW style sour ale is a blend of Wheat and Blond ales aged in oak wine barrels with strawberries and vanilla beans for up to 12 months. Bright and crisp, the 2014 Strawberry captures the essence of fresh strawberries with subtle notes of oak, vanilla and fruit preserves. 7.56% ABV, $7 glass, $2 taster, $20 bottle.”
Portland’s Saraveza is hosting Old Town Brewing tonight from 6 to 9pm to celebrate the release of Old Town’s bottled beers: “We celebrate the release of two new 22’s from Old Town Brewing Co.. The Old Town gang will be in-house pouring samples of their first two bottled beers: Shanghai’d IPA and Sun Dazed Kölsch, a silver medalist at last year’s World Beer Cup and Great American Beer Festival. We’ll have the Shanghai’d IPA, Kölsch and their Wheat IPA on draft too!”
Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting the 10 Barrel Swill release party today from 5 to 7pm: “It’s that time of year again! 10 Barrel’s highly anticipated Swill is being released just in time for the hot summer weather! Come grab a taste of Swill and, in the biercafé, you can also sip on the recently released Cucumber Crush and Raspberry Crush. And, just for fun, we will have a full tasting of all the 10 Barrel lineup!”
The Green Dragon (Portland) has the latest Green Dragon Brew Crew release today starting at 5pm: Beautiful Lei IPA. “This is not your typical Northwest IPA. Beautiful Lei is brewed with Citra, Meridian, and Mandarina Bavaria hops to showcase floral notes of jasmine and lilac. Close your eyes and with one sip you’ll find yourself transported to a tropical paradise.”
