Oregon Beer News, 06/11/2015
Here’s the Oregon beer news for the penultimate day of the week, June 11. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Today is the start of Portland Beer Week! This is the premier beer week celebration in Oregon and offers up 11 days of beer-soaked activities: “Dedicated to promoting Portland and our diverse craft beer culture, Portland Beer Week is a grassroots organization founded in 2011 as an annual city-wide event. We explore the boundaries and the things that make us great with fun, unique and educational events that take place all over the city with the best in restaurants, breweries, bars, retail stores, bottle shops and more.” I’ll be listing daily events below the fold for each day (for as long as I can keep up!).
Today is also the start of the Molalla Brew Fest—the 5th annual fest taking place in downtown Molalla (northeast of Salem and south of Oregon City). This year is a fundraiser for the Wheeler Family Cancer Fund, and take place over three days (June 11-13) starting at 5pm today and Friday, and running from noon to midnight Saturday. Here’s the Facebook event page for the fest. There will be live music and food of course, and cost is, “$20. Packages include 2015 souvenir beer mug (or glass) and drink tickets on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Limited supply of glass – we do sell out. Purchase of a package allows for re-entry the rest of the weekend for only $5.00 (must have your 2015 mug, wristband and identification).” In addition to 30 taps of beer, there will also be wine from St. Josef’s Winery and draft root beer from Crater Lake Soda.
McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale) has a limited-edition beer tasting today starting at 5pm, featuring Cask Conditioned Rubinator: “This particular beer has been cask conditioned for extra authenticity to be served only for our beer release. Until the advent of modern refrigerated draught systems, cask conditioned ales were the most common sight at your local pub. Rubinator is a popular mixture of our Terminator Stout and Ruby Raspberry Fruit Beer. Enjoy!”

Viking Braggot Company (Eugene): They are hard at work brewing up one of their signature braggots in time for their second anniversary coming up: “So close you can almost taste the pineapple! A much less bearded Perry just finished up the secondary edition of roughly 150lbs of organic pineapple for the Pineapple IPA! It will be finished up just in time for our 2nd Anniversary Party on Saturday, June 27th so mark the calendar!”
The Commons Brewery (Portland) has a new seasonal out: “Starting today our latest seasonal is available in bottle at the Tasting Room. Fleur de Blanc is a white farmhouse ale with rose and elderflowers. Refreshing with a creamy body from malted spelt, this is one of our favorite beers we make. Bottles are $9 and will be available at Portland area stores starting next week.”
Golden Valley Brewery (McMinnille): Their Beaverton location is tapping their summer seasonal, Red Hills Pilsner, today starting at 3pm, and as they do, all pints from that first keg are $3 until it blows. Perfect beer for a hot summer day!
