Oregon Beer News, 06/13/2012
Here’s the Oregon beer news for Wednesday, June 13. As usual I will be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest updates; and if you have some news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Both Portland Beer Week and Medford Beer Week are continuing today, each with great events going on at each respective end of the state. In Portland there is (among other things) a barrel-aged beer seminar and a brewers dinner with Elysian owner Dick Cantwell; in Medford there are a number of tastings, food pairings, and an educational event with Craig McPheeters of Bricktowne Brewing (which appears to be a new Medford brewery I previously didn’t know about). Lots of good things going on to keep beer lovers happy!
I’ve posted an update to the PINTS Brewing tasting at Bend’s Platypus Pub this Friday the 15th, with the three beers that will be pouring. Head brewer Zach Beckwith will be on hand to talk about his beers from this very-new Portland brewery.
The Green Dragon (Portland) tonight has a Green Dragon Brew Crew release at 5pm featuring Zombie Juice(!): “A blend of equal volumes of an extreme IPA and a hoppy mild resulted in this somewhat unusual IPA. Hop heads will rejoice with the tongue numbing and lasting bitter this beer delivers. Clean and bold, this IPA has an edge common among NW IPAs. A beer with a sorted past, this beer will attack that fire in the belly for more hops and bitter taste revealing the undead within you.” 7.1% abv and 80 IBUs.
10 Barrel Brewing (Bend): Looks like progress is underway to move the equipment from their old, smaller brewing space to the new brewery—brewer Tonya Cornett posted a photo today with the caption, “Finally the sour room tanks are moving from the old brew house to the new one!” This is one of the last things 10 Barrel needs to do to move out of their old space (which Brew Werks Brewing will be taking over), I think. Also note the use of the term “sour room.”
The Commons Brewery (Portland) will be at the Hop & Vine tonight from 6 to 8pm, pouring samples of their Urban Farmhouse Ale and Flemish Kiss and generally having a good time.
