Oregon Beer News, 06/13/2013
Here’s the news in Oregon beer for Thursday, June 13; we’re nearly through the week! As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Yes, there is more Portland Beer Week and Medford Beer Week stuff going on today! Among the Portland events is this gem: the release party for Gentlemen’s Club, the Widmer/Cigar City Brewing collaboration, an “Old-fashioned Style Ale” that was split up among three different barrels to age. All three versions will be available side-by-side for comparison at the Gasthaus, and Widmer’s and Cigar City’s brewmasters will be on-hand for the event. Definitely a must-hit.
Among the Medford events, there are a number of tap takeovers and pint nights taking place around the region, and look for Apocalypse Brewing‘s “Can you Ring the Bull Contest” though I have to confess I don’t really know what that entails; but it sounds suitably Southern Oregon somehow.
McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale): They have a limited-edition beer tasting today beginning at 5pm: Going Back to Cali Organic Common. “When we were trying to find inspiration for our entry to the North American Organic Brewers Fest coming up in June we turned – as we often do – to the Notorious B.I.G. for guidance. The resulting California Common style beer is a light amber lager fermented at ale temperature with a malt profile smoother than Biggie’s rhymes, and a hop presence to provide the balance that will have you “going going back back” for another.” It’s limited so when it’s gone, it’s gone (until the North American Organic Brewfest, anyway).
De Garde Brewing (Tillamook) is in Eugene today at 16 Tons for a special meet the brewer and pouring event starting at 6pm. De Garde will be pouring at least six of their beers, and owner/brewer Trevor Rogers will be on-hand to chat and answer questions. Great opportunity to taste and find out more about this brewery, which is focusing largely on spontaneously fermented beers!
The Growler Guys here in Bend have a couple of things happening today: first, starting at 4pm they are hosting a meet the brewer with Bend’s own GoodLife Brewing, with 4 GoodLife beers on tap, and there will also be “giveaways, beer, food, stickers, and DISCOUNTS! $1 off all GoodLife growler fills from 4-6pm.”
And, the big news from the Growler Guys is that today is the official opening of their new westside location here in Bend! This new fill station is located in the Chevron gas station across the street from Broken Top Bottle Shop at the base of the hill leading up to Central Oregon Community College. They have 30 taps available and look to be hitting the ground running and strong.
