Oregon Beer News, 06/14/2013
Happy Friday! It’s been a good week for beer (two of them, technically!) and that is going to continue as we roll into the weekend! Here’s the news for the weekend of Friday, June 14. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
Medford Beer Week‘s final days are today and tomorrow, with a number of events going on and leading into tomorrow’s Southern Oregon Craft Brew Festival taking place from noon to 8pm in Medford’s Old Town district. It’s a 21 and over event, with a nice-looking selection of breweries, and cost is $14 which gets you a commemorative pint glass, 5 tasting tickets, program and other “goodies.” Additional tickets are sold “five for $5, twelve for $10” in blocks.
Meanwhile over in western Oregon, the Molalla Brew Fest is taking place today and tomorrow (and kicked off last night) over in Molalla: over 25 taps pouring beer and cider, food, live music, and more taking over downtown Molalla starting at 5pm tonight and noon tomorrow. Cost is $20 for the souvenir glass and drink tickets, additional tickets are $1 each. Should a fun weekend in small town Oregon!
It really is “small town Oregon fest weekend”: the Sisters Wine & Brew Festival is also taking place today and tomorrow in the town of Sisters (home of Three Creeks Brewing): from 2 to 9pm tonight and 11 to 8pm tomorrow in Sisters’ Village Green Park, the Fest features 11 breweries as well as wineries and distilleries pouring their wares, and there will be food and music on hand as well. You’ll need to purchase tokens (of course) for $1 each. Should be a fun weekend!
And Three Creeks Brewing also has two new beers launching to day. Here’s the word from brewer Zach Beckwith: “Restoration Pale Ale brewed for Saturday’s Ride for Two Rivers and Golden Stitches, a hoppy wheat ale brewed for the Sisters Quilt Show. Golden Stitches is our summer seasonal that will be available in bottles and draft all summer long as well as being our entry in next week’s Fermentation Celebration in the Old Mill.” And on top of that, Three Creeks will be at Bend’s Newport Avenue Market today from 3:30 to 5:30 for a special tasting, pouring Golden Stitches as well as their classics.
Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Today is the official bottle release of their Fresh Squeezed IPA (summer hop seasonal), and all day long at the Bend and Portland Pubs they have been celebrating with bottle sales and special IPA flights with sensory pairings. This is a great beer so if you want first crack at getting some of the first bottles, get down there tonight!
Lompoc Brewing (Portland): Tonight is their Sci-Fi Movie Night at the Hollywood Theatre featuring the first two “Terminator” movies and the line up of Lompoc’s sci-fi series of IPAs. The marquis beer is “Ryes of the Machines IPA” and starts at 6pm—if you’re a fan of science fiction, IPAs, and the Terminator movies in particular, you should not miss this.
Portland U-Brew & Pub (Portland) is releasing a special single malt beer tomorrow, Saturday the 15th, starting at 3pm. “We brewed two kegs with Weyerman pilsner as the base grain. american 1056 yeast. Citra and Falconers flight.” Not quite the full SMaSH treatment but still a neat idea. There will be BBQ on hand as well.
Occidental Brewing (Portland) is celebrating their 2nd anniversary tomorrow as well, with a special crawfish boil, special beers, and swag throughout the day. “We’ll be cooking up 200 lbs of crawfish plus fixins throughout the day. Food is compliments of Occidental, a small token of our gratitude for your continued support. First batch dumped on butcher paper about 1 pm and continued until all crustaceans are eaten. There will also be some swag giveaways throughout the day, accompanied by sunshine and merriment. Bring your friends. See you there!”
