Oregon Beer News, 07/08/2015
Happy Hump Day! Here’s the news in Oregon beer from around th web for Wednesday, July 8. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
McMenamins Hillsdale Brewery (Portland): The original brewpub has an all-day special beer tasting for Barrel Aged White Van Wheat: “This Belgian style wheat beer was brewed with traditional malts and yeast which gives it a light color and crisp, slightly fruity finish. Crushed coriander seeds, Juniper berries and dried sweet orange peel were added late in the boil to compliment the yeast and add complexity. After fermentation the beer was aged for three weeks in a Billy whiskey barrel from Cornelius Pass Roadhouse picking up char, oak, and whiskey flavor and aromas.” N0t sure I’ve had a barrel-aged Witbier before.
The Green Dragon (Portland): Today’s Green Dragon Brew Crew release at 5pm is featuring Baltic Shipwreck, a hefty 8.5% abv beer: “When the traditional Baltic porter collides with the Green Dragon Brew Crew, what you get is the Baltic Shipwreck. Tradition says lager yeast. The Brew Crew says let’s cold ferment it with ale yeast and then age it in an oak whiskey barrel. With flavors of toasted oak, chocolate and a tart finish, Baltic Shipwreck is complex brew that will put you in a Baltic state of mind.”
