Oregon Beer News, 07/12/2012
Here’s the Oregon beer news for Thursday, July 12. As usual I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the rest of the day, so check back often for the latest. If you have news to share please contact me and I can get it updated.
Bend’s Fermentation Celebration is taking place today down in Bend’s Old Mill District (as I blogged earlier). Starting at 5pm, and lasting until “dry”, you’ll get to enjoy a “beer walk” visiting nearly all of Central Oregon’s breweries at various locations throughout the area. Cost is $15 which includes a Silipint and 9 tasting tickets, a great deal. There will also be live music, prizes, and more. Don’t miss it!
The Green Dragon (Portland) is having a meet the brewer tonight featuring Seattle’s Elysian Brewing starting at 5pm (when the beers are tapped; the meet the brewer portions starts at 6). This one’s going to be a lot of fun, too: “Green Dragon will have a stellar line-up of Elysian brews on tap and Elysian Founder, Dave Buhler will be on hand to tell the tales of his ales! As a most awesome additional feature, Dave will also be performing a rare musical solo performance on the patio with songs from his upcoming album, “Buhler, anyone?”. This is not your average “Meet the Brewer” event.”
McMenamins Fulton Pub (Portland) has a limited-edition beer tasting tonight starting at 5pm (and lasting until the beer is gone, of course) featuring Terminator Stout aged on French Oak: “Black as the darkest night, rich as the most decadent dessert, Terminator is for the true stout lover. This is a full-bodied and flavor-packed ale which draws its robust complexity from kiln-baked specialty grains. Look for a wide array of toasted, chocolate, nutty and coffee-like flavors in every pint. If that doesn’t sound complex and delicious enough, this special batch of Terminator was aged for six weeks on French Oak. The wood mellows the flavors and adds a decadent vanilla-like aroma and flavor. Smooth and delicious!”
Meanwhile over in Troutdale, McMenamins Edgefield has a limited-edition tasting tying in with their OCBM special this week for fruit beer: Blue Bonnet vanilla bean and boysenberry ale. “Blue Bonnet is a light, crisp, and refreshingly fruity ale with a twist. Slighty more tart and fuller bodied than our Ruby recipe, this beer is made with Oregon Fruit boysenberry puree and carefully blended with vanilla bean. Like a slice of mom’s boysenberry pie à la mode, but served in a pint glass.” It’s a nice summertime session beer at 4.39% abv.
Broken Top Bottle Shop (Bend): Tonight they are hosting their BREWS & BANDS free music and beer tasting event featuring Portland’s Burnside Brewing, starting at 6pm. “Brew master Jason McAdamis a creative trendsetter in brewing, bold enough to take risks and smart enough to leave a creative impression on your taste buds. He balances our desires for tradition such as the Oatmeal Pale, then throws in food inspired beers such as the Sweet Heat, an apricot wheat beer dry hopped with scotch bonnet peppers that is reminiscent of a Caribbean chutney.”
Full Sail Brewing (Hood River) has a meet the brewer today from 5 to 6:30 featuring Clinton’s Wertzbier, the latest in their Brewer’s Share series: Brewer Clinton Wertzbaugher came up with a 5.6% abv Rauchbier, brewed lighter for summer.
