Oregon Beer News, 07/19/2012
I apologize for the lack of recent Oregon beer news updates the past few days, there’s been a lot of other things going on and I haven’t been able to stay on top of this as much as I’d like. That being said, here’s today’s news, for Thursday the 19th; I’ll try to update this post as often as possible, so check back periodically to see the latest news. If you have news you’d like to share, please contact me and I can get that posted.
The Green Dragon (Portland) is hosting a meet the brewer event tonight featuring Astoria’s Fort George Brewery, starting at 5pm. Beers will be tapped at 5 and the meet the brewer portion starts at 6. From Fort George: “They have cellar-ed up some of our North IV Holiday Ale from a year and a half ago for a special release. The man of the month for Fort George is Head Brewer, Spencer Gotter, and he will be on hand to rap beer with the best of them. Other beers on tap will include: South, a Pinot Noir Barrel Aged Belgian, Hellcat, and a new experimental “Session Cascadian Pale Ale,” Midnight Ryeder.”
Belmont Station‘s Puckerfest continues, with both New Belgium and Cascade Brewing on-hand today from 3 to 11pm: “At 3PM we’ll tap an oak pin of New Belgium Oscar (one of the two Foeder-aged sour beers that Lauren and Eric Salazar use as the base blending beers for the Lips of Faith Series), and we’ll also have a rare keg of Blackberry Whiskey Sour on tap beginning at noon. The Cascade crew have graced us with kegs of Apricot, Plum Rye, and Spiced Blossom.”
Yelp is currently holding a cool beer-themed week-long event called “Yelp’s On Tap“: “What is Yelp’s On Tap, you ask? It’s a week-long Oregon beer happy hour. A bunch of local Portland Bars are offering up a selection of deeply-discounted (and we mean DEEP discounts!) beers all day every day during the week from 7/18 to 7/24. Yup, you heard that right.
All you need to do is:
1. Stop by one of the awesome local participating bars during normal opening hours from July 18-24
2. Mention Yelp’s On Tap [you have to mention it to get the discount!]
3. Drink your inexpensive, delicious brew,
4. Tip on the original beer price,
5. Repeat.”
Pfriem Family Brewers (Hood River): Tonight is their Portland Launch Part at Bazi Bierbrasserie from 6 to 9pm—Portland’s first chance to taste the beers from Hood River’s latest brewery! They’ll have five of their beers on hand: White IPA, IPA, Strong Blonde, Strong Dark and Wit. And you’ll get a chance to meet the Brewmaster, Josh Pfriem. Don’t miss out!
Broken Top Bottle Shop (Bend) is having Redmond’s Phat Matt’s Brewing in for a free tasting tonight, along with their BREWS & BANDS free music as well! The tasting is from 6 to 9pm and you can be sure to taste the latest brews to come out of Phat Matt’s.
Cascade Brewing (Portland) has bottles of their Strawberry going on sale tomorrow, Friday the 20th: “Strawberry goes on sale tomorrow, July 20, at 5pm at the Barrel House & the Raccoon Lodge. Sorry, no online sales. $20/750 ml bottle, limit 4 bottles per person. Small case run, these will go fast!” Get over there an pick some up (and send me 1 or 2)!
Flat Tail Brewing (Corvallis): They’re having their 2nd anniversary party Saturday the 21st all day long! With tappings of new or special release beers every hour on the hour from 11 to 6, free swag, a special anniversary beer, and more, this is going to be a heckuva party—befitting a college town! Congrats Flat Tail and here’s to many more years to come.
