Oregon Beer News, 07/19/2013
Happy Friday! Here’s the Oregon beer news for the 19th of July and the weekend. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
The Portland International Beerfest starts today and runs through the weekend: “PIB is a high end 3-day beer festival specializing in rare, hard-to-find, exotic beers. Over 150 world-class beers from 16 countries will be on hand, hailing from all over the planet, many from right here in the Pacific NW. Stroll around the beautiful park with a cold one as you listen to music play all weekend.” The PIB tends to be overshadowed by the Oregon Brewers Festival (which starts next week) but it’s a good place to find the imports that the OBF doesn’t carry. It’s taking place at the Pearl District North Park Blocks and it’s $25 entry (cash only) which gets you the PIB glass and 10 tasting tickets (which are subsequently $1 each). You could attend PIB and then OBF and have nearly a full week of festival going!
Columbia River Brewing (Portland) is celebrating their 3rd anniversary tonight from 5 to 10pm, with “BBQ 1/2 Chicken, baked beans, and potato salad $10.00”, live music, and lots of beer! It’s happy hour all day, and among the beers they’ll have on tap will be two special ones, Hollywood Hefe and Barley Wine aged two years, and some ten more as well. If you’re not hitting up the PIB tonight swing on by to Columbia River and congratulate them on three years.
Flat Tail Brewing in Corvallis is also celebrating their 3rd anniversary this weekend with a big party all day long tomorrow, Saturday the 20th. From noon to 6pm there will be brewery tours and a new beer released every hour, with the beer schedule starting at noon looking like this: Belgian Golden Strong, 3rd Anniversary Ale, Bourbon Old 25, 2012 White Light with Brett, Humulus Lambicus, Humulus Nocta, and Lemon Diesel. There will also be free toasts at 1 and 6pm, and trivia and free swag all day, as well as bottle releases of the 3rd Anniversary Ale and Humulus Lambicus. Flat Tail is brewing some of the most unusual beers in Oregon these past 3 years, so be sure to help them celebrate!
McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse (Hillsboro): Tomorrow is the 12th annual Roadhouse Brewfest! “This noncompetitive celebration of beer “puts the brewer back in brewfest,” featuring knowledgeable and idiosyncratic McMenamins brewers ready to answer queries throughout the entire event. Meet, mingle and chat with our brewers, enjoy food from Imbrie Hall’s summertime menu, let the kids run around all crazy-like and beyond. It has become a summertime tradition for loads of Pacific Northwest beer lovers.” It kicks off at 2pm and runs “til late”, with live music from the Freak Mountain Ramblers starting at 7; don’t miss out!
