Oregon Beer News, 07/29/2013
Back to Monday and the start of a new week! Here’s the Oregon beer news for July 29. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
This week PFriem Family Brewers (Hood River) is celebrating their first anniversary! They’ll be holding their 1st Anniversary Party this Saturday, August 3, at their tasting room from 2 to 10pm: “Family-friendly event, featuring live music with bands including The Greenneck Daredevils, Wild Ones, and Tony Smiley. Party will take place under a covered tent in the east parking lot. Several food options will be available in the outdoor event area including pulled pork sandwiches, veggie burgers, brats and organic hot dogs. Minors are welcome at the pFriem event from 2pm to 8pm and there will be a kid’s corner with outdoor games & activities.”
And this Thursday Portland’s Bazi Bierbrasserie is also holding a “One Year Greatest Hits” celebration for PFriem this Thursday the 1st from 6 to 9pm: “It’s been a year since the official market launch party of pFriem Family Brewers. So, it’s only appropriate that Bazi (1522 SE 32nd Ave) host their Portland edition anniversary party with their One Year Greatest Hits on Thursday, August 1 from 6-9 PM. The pFriem Family Brewers lineup will include: Strong Blonde, Blonde IPA, Lil Saison, Christmas Ale, Strong Dark, Tripel, and Swarzbier.”
Hop Valley Brewing (Springfield): Today is the 3rd annual release of a special memorial beer, which kicks off at 5pm: “We are releasing one keg only of a very special ale to celebrate the life of one of our brewers late friend, Cole Schanz. This Year’s brew is a Raspberry Rosemerry Cream Ale called “Diamond Jim’s R & R” offered in a Nitro only format. All proceeds from this beer will be donated to the Cole Schanz Memorial Scholarship Fund at Northwest College in Powell, WY. Come on down and get some at our new location on 990 w. 1st. it won’t be around for long.”
The 3rd annual BenFest is returning to Portland this week at the EastBurn! This is a beer fest where all the beers are brewed by a “Ben”—and there are a suprising amount of them! It takes place this Wednesday, the 31st, starting at 5pm. “BenFest returns for its 3rd year and is the official closing event of Oregon Craft Beer Month. Each Ben Brewer contributes a beer, including a collaboration between Ben Edmunds of Breakside Brewing and Deschutes’s Ben Kehs. What did they brew for BenFest? Why, a Colonial Porter inspired by a recipe by Ben Franklin. This delicious one off debuts at this event.” In addition to Ben Edmunds and Ben Kehs, look for Ben Dobler, Ben Engler, Ben Love, and Ben Flerchinger.
McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse (Hillsboro): This Wednesday the 31st is “Pepperfest ’13″ at the Roadhouse, ” three cold beer/hot pepper combos from the experimental team of Zymurgists working the kettle at the Roadhouse Brewery” all of which starts at 6pm. This sounds like a great event, with the three beers being: Aztec Chocolate Chili Stout, Conflagration IPA (with Habanero peppers and orange zest), and Jalapa Lager (“Honey Lager infused with Jalapeño, Serrano, and Red Thai Chili’s”). Check it out if you get the chance!
Base Camp Brewing (Portland) will be at Bend’s Broken Top Bottle Shop tomorrow, Tuesday the 30th, for a tasting event from 5 to 7pm. If it’s like previous tastings (it usually is), Broken Top will likely have a beer or two on tap and Base Camp will have several other beers on hand to sample.
Cheers! Thanks for the info on PFriem – i’ll be in Hood River that day :^)
