Oregon Beer News, 07/29/2015
Halfway through the week and I hope it’s treating you well! There’s always a beer at the end of they day/week… much like the beer news, there’s always more! Here’s the Oregon beer news for Wednesday, July 29. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Silver Moon Brewing (Bend): This Friday, July 31, they are releasing a special summer seasonal—Sun Worshiper Summer Ale—that was the winning beer recipe from their Battle of the Brews homebrew competition they held late last year. “Out of 38 entires, judged by Central Oregon Beer Angels, professional brewers, and a BJCP certified judge, COHO [Central Oregon Homebrewers Organization] member Doug Jordan’s Sun Worshiper Summer Ale won the Grand Prize: To brew his recipe in our brewhouse with our Head Brewer, to hold a tap handle in our pub, and to be available on tap at Growler Guys locations all around Oregon!” Such a fun idea. The beer is 5.4% abv and 20 IBUs. The release party starts at 7pm.
McMenamins Crystal Ballroom (Portland) has their monthly special beer tasting at Ringler’s Pub tonight from 5 to 9m, featuring Oaken Tower BBL-Aged Ginger Beer: “A blend of American and French oak barrel aged raspberry-hibiscus ginger beer. The wild micro-beasties in our oaken tower of barrels imparted a tart acidity and muted funkiness, complimenting the flavors from Stewart Brothers’ organic raspberries and Tao of Tea’s hibiscus-ginger herbal blend.” This one sounds interesting!
McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse (Hillsboro): Today is their LagerFest as part of their monthly Roadhouse Beer Tasting series! Featuring a spotlight on McMenamins breweries’ various lager beers from 6 to 9pm: “We’ve invited seven McMenamins Breweries to craft and brew their best Lagers—and we’re inviting you to try ‘em. Will the Hop Blossom be your fave, or the Vienna Lager? Talk to the brewers, ask beery questions, enjoy happy hour pricing all night long on these limited-edition pints and more.” There’s quite a list of beers posted, with four from CPR, and three from Edgefield and elsewhere.
The Green Dragon (Portland): Tonight’s Green Dragon Brew Crew release at 5pm is featuring Effing Gud Kolsch: “After Brew Crew member Tracy tried Alex’s fierce kölsch that was released at the Green Dragon in May, she threw down saying she could top it. Thus began the brew-off challenge for who could make the best damn refreshing summer kölsch beer ever. Come out and enjoy this light and refreshing kölsch and see for yourself. Effing Güd Kölsch is a refreshing, easy drinking beer with floral and citrus aromas and a clean lightly bready malt body. If you can’t make it to Germany this summer, make it to the Green Dragon to try Effing Güd Kölsch.”
Mazama Brewing (Corvallis) is doing a tasting and meet the brewer event at Venti’s Café & Taphouse in Salem tonight from 6 to 8pm. There will be taster trays, swag giveaways and more.
