Oregon Beer News, 07/30/2013
Here’s the news in Oregon beer for the penultimate day of July, Tuesday the 30th. I’m scouring the web looking for news and as usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
This Saturday, August 3rd is the annual Oakridge Keg & Cask Festival that takes place at Brewers Union Local 180 (here’s the Facebook event page). The street in front of Brewers Union closes from 2 to 9pm and it’s a party featuring beers, wines, and ciders, live music, food, and more! “The Oakridge Keg & Cask Festival is an annual event in Oakridge, Oregon and is a fundraiser for several local nonprofits including the Local Food Box (UWCDC), Chamber of Commerce, Greater Oakridge Area Trail Stewards (GOATS), and the Uptown Business & Revitalization Association (UBRA). This year’s event will be August 3, 2013 and alined with the Oakridge Ukulele Festival, Cascade Cream Puff 100 and the Just Us Festival for an action packed weekend.” It’s $15 for entry which gets you the commemorative glass and drink tokens and I think it’s going to be a great day if you can make it!
Base Camp Brewing (Portland) will be in Bend tonight at Broken Top Bottle Shop for a tasting event from 5 to 7pm, featuring a bunch of their beers. Base Camp posted today: “grab a beer with our amicable amigo extraordinaire J. Rosscoe Putnam. He’ll be sampling FIVE of our delish brews, AND THEN! At 6pm we’re doing a SIMULTANEOUS TAPPING OF THE KEG! for our brand new Meridiwit, a hybrid wit/APA, perfect for a summer night in Portland AND Bend!”
Meanwhile in Bend, over at the Platypus Pub they are holding a tasting event featuring Alaskan Brewing this evening from 6 to 8pm: “Sean Rodriguez from Alaskan Brewing will we joining us Tuesday at 6:00 for a tasting. Along with the Freeride Pale Ale, he will be sampling a couple one offs in Troppelbock and Bitter Billican.”
Here’s some news I learned last week and forgot to mention: Oakshire Brewing in Eugene has a new brewer, Christina Canto, who comes to them from the Rogue Ale Eugene Public House and McMenamins Edgefield before that. Congrats!
And speaking of Oakshire, today they have a special flight of beers that if you’re a beer geek, you’ll get excited about: “Tonight at 6p we’ll have 5 different versions of Summer Feet ESA in our Pub! Summer Feet on Nitro, Summer Feet (C02), Hot Summer Feet (infused with Jalapeno), Blueberry infused Summer Feet, and a cask conditioned pin of Summer Feet dry hopped with Styrian Goldings Hops. Summer Feet Flight anyone?” That would definitely be something I’d be interested in—if only I lived in Eugene!
Solstice Brewing (Prineville): Today Solstice is celebrating their two-year anniversary! “Come on down and let us say thanks. Pints, growlers and growler fills are on special all day! We’re also releasing a new smoked porter. Should be a great day for the patio and a brew!” Their beers on tap are Smoked Porter, Boot Kick’n Stout, Prinetucky Pale Ale, Last Day IPA, Double Dam IPA, Warpaint Red Ale, and Show me the Honey Wheat. Big congratulations to Solstice on two years! (They’ve been brewing for one.)
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House at 6pm is featuring “Live” Shrieking Violet Blueberry: “This NW-style sour ale is no wallflower. It started as a triple that was barrel aged for 18 months, then aged another 11 months on blueberries before having blond quad blended in. Huge sweet and herbal notes of dense blueberries in the nose give way to hints of oak and leather. Rich, earthy notes of dark fruit on the palate yield to a rich, velvety finish that dries out to a base note of blueberry skins. 10.3% | $8 glass | $3 taster”
