Oregon Beer News, 08/01/2017
August has arrived, and with it the heat! We have record hot temperatures all over the state for this week so please take it easy and stay hydrated. Here’s the news in Oregon beer for this Tuesday, August 1. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
With the projected heat this week, stay safe and hydrated, and be aware that some events may be postponed or places closed. For instance, Vertigo Brewing is planning to be closed on Wednesday and Thursday (and opening later on Friday) because they have no air conditioning. And Ecliptic Brewing has postponed their Pie Harder event due to the heat. Stay cool as best you can!
Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Every Tuesday at both the Bend and Portland pubs is Community Pints, where $1 of every pint sold is donated to a local non-profit organization. I haven’t seen posted yet what the beneficiaries will be for August, but if you get down to one of the pubs today and help out with a pint or three, I know they will definitely appreciate it!
Block 15 Brewery (Corvallis) also has their Dine Out fundraiser taking place at their downtown pub today, benefiting Old Mill Center: “Please join us for a delicious, locally sourced meal at our downtown pub on Tuesday, August 1st – 10% of food sales will be donated to the Old Mill Center. To learn more about the organization, please visit their website at: http://www.oldmillcenter.org/” This takes place all day long.
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Their Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House at 6pm is featuring Star-Crossed Sour: “A blend of sour saison, blond and imperial porter ales aged for up to 26 months in white wine and bourbon barrels with mandarin and grapefruit peel, lemongrass and sea salt. This beer is a marriage of contrasting flavors; refreshingly tart tropical and citrus fruit are matched with smooth bourbon and caramel notes tied together by a kiss of sea salt – a liquid Capulet and Montague in every glass!”
