Oregon Beer News, 08/03/2017
Today is IPA Day! It’s as much a social media movement to celebrated IPA and share online as it is a beer style day, so drink (and post) accordingly! Here’s the other Oregon beer news for this Thursday, August 3. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Rogue Ales (Newport) has a number of IPA Day specials at various locations all day long: “Join us at any of our Rogue Pubs for a special $10 IPA taster tray: 4Hop, 5Hop, 6Hop, 7Hop and 8Hop. & Let us know which is your favorite. Cheers to IPAs!!”
Portland’s Saraveza is hosting an IPA Day fundraiser for the National Brain Tumor Society with Ballast Point Brewing and Brewpublic: “On Thursday, August 3rd from 5-9 PM we’ll be celebrating National IPA Day with Ballast Point and the Summer of Sculpin! Both Saraveza and Ballast Point will be donating to the National Brain Tumor Society in support of Angelo De Ieso’s (of Brewpublic) fundraising campaign to help find a cure for brain cancer and assist those living with brain tumors. To celebrate the generosity and healing power of the beer community we’ll be pouring an amazing draft list featuring the full array of Sculpin IPAs. There may even be a super special Sculpin variant on cask…but we’ll see about that ;)”
Belmont Station (Portland): For IPA Day, Belmont is hosting the release party for the Eastern Oregon collaboration beer from Terminal Gravity Brewing and Barley Brown’s: “Terminal Gravity is turning 20, and Barley Brown’s wanted to help them celebrate with a collaboration IPA! The result? Beast from the East IPA, a hazy, juicy reminder of just how far craft beer has come in 20 years! We are very excited to be the the first establishment to pour this celebratory collaboration between these two great breweries, so come by and enjoy a pint! Brewers will be on site 6-8 PM to talk about the beer! And since it’s IPA Day, we will also have some other great IPAs on tap — pretty much like we always do!” Okay I definitely need to get some of this beer!
McMenamins 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop (Portland) is hosting a beer tasting with a beer from the West Linn brewery from 6 to 8pm, featuring Dragonflies Blackberry Wheat PDX Tapping: “Our West Linn Brewer Ryan Lund returns to share his Dragonflies Blackberry Wheat. So come raise a pint or two of this delicious summer sipper. Frequently seen in purple jerseys, powering their dragon boat up and down the Willamette, OWLS Dragonflies are women who excel both in and out of the courtroom. This summer ale was crafted in tribute, with crisp malts, subtle hops, and Oregon blackberries working as a team to refresh and revitalize. The ‘Flies are on fire this season, so let’s raise a glass to Portland’s premier paddlers!”
Bend’s Platypus Pub is hosting the first half of a tasting of Sierra Nevada’s Beer Camp set—six beers, with the other six being tasted at Bend’s The Brown Owl tomorrow—from 6 to 8pm tonight: “Try 6 of the 12 beer camp beers from this year’s line up. We have some amazing beers from the likes of, Tree House brewing, St. Arnold Brewing, Fuller’s Brewing, Avery Brewing, Duvel moortgat, and the Garage Project campout Porter. All of these beers are out-standing in the field right now. Please join us and try something outside the norm.”

Likewise, Montavilla Brew Works (Portland) posted about IPA Day with—ironically enough—a Kolsch: “This Thursday, August 3rd, is National IPA Day. Sure, we have a couple IPA’s on the backburner, but during this brutal heatwave, we thought we’d release our brand new “Montavilla Kölsch” instead! Light, refreshing and with subtle fruit aromas and a snappy little finish. 5% ABV & 22 IBU. Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention….$4 pints of Kölsch from Open to Close THURSDAY THRU SUNDAY!
