Oregon Beer News, 08/04/2015
Here’s the news in Oregon beer from around the web for Tuesday, August 4. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
Brannon’s Pub & Brewery (Beaverton): The Portland alt-newspaper Willamette Week broke the news yesterday that Brannon’s is closed, until further notice: “Brannon’s… closed on Aug. 1, ‘until further notice,’ after less than a year in business. WW discovered this while passing by (long story!), and we’ve so far unable to contact owner Kevin Brannon or his team for confirmation.” That confirmation appears to be on Brannon’s social media feeds now as well; hopefully this will only be temporary but we’ll have to wait and see.
McMenamins Fulton Pub (Portland) has a limited-edition beer tasting today featuring an Oatmeal Pale: “This NW style pale ale is characterized by a floral, as well as a citrus like hoppiness. This beer has a medium body with a mildly bready malt quality. The use of rolled oats gives this beer a nice smooth texture and drinkability.” An easy-drinking 5.55% abv ale with 37 IBUs; the tasting starts at 5pm and lasts until it’s gone.
Bend’s Rat Hole Brewing is looking to expand—and they’ve launched a Kickstarter campaign to help raise the funds to do so. The plan is to expand from their current 2.5-barrel system located east of Bend (in a renovated barn) to a 7.5-barrel brewery located in Sunriver. “We have leased a warehouse in Sunriver Oregon We need the funding to convert the warehouse into a workable brewery. We need to have floor drains installed, water lines added, walls and ceiling painted and the floor sealed. We also have to have a waste holding tank and a water metering device installed. Once the brewery is set up we will move our current operation from Bend to Sunriver.” They hope to raise $26,250 by August 21, if you’d like to help them reach that goal head over and donate.
Oakshire Brewing (Eugene): Their latest Single Batch series beer drops tonight: “Black Wolf Schwarzbier returns tonight for our Tuesday Beer Release. Schwarzbier is a dark German lager that balances roasted yet smooth malt flavors with moderate hop bitterness. Mild roast flavors, a bit of chocolate along with a lighter body, dryness, and lack of a harsh, burnt, or heavy aftertaste helps make this beer quite drinkable. Learn more from Brewmaster Matt Van Wyk tonight at 6pm!”
Breakside Brewery (Portland) has newly-available canned beer: “Breakside Post Time Kolsch is now available in 16oz tall boy cans and will be a featured session beer at The Mighty Mites session fest at Bazi Bierbrasserie on 8/16!” Perfect beer to go into pounder cans!
