Oregon Beer News, 08/04/2017
Yesterday was IPA Day, and today is International Beer Day! It’s “a day for beer lovers everywhere to raise a toast to our brewers and bartenders and rejoice in the greatness of beer!” so drink and toast accordingly. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
Friday, 8/4
Eugene’s The Bier Stein is welcome Climate City Brewing from Grants Pass for a tap takeover event from 5 to 8pm: “Enjoy a flight from a new brewery in Grants Pass, and meet Climate City’s head brewer, Acacia Cooper. We will tap six beers, and Acacia will be offering free samples and a raffle for swag. Welcome to Climate City! Here’s the list of goodies: Hot Shot Smoked Helles, Raspbeery Cream Ale, Maracuya Gose, Citradora Strong Pale Ale, Slow Row Amber, and Nookie IPA”
Bend’s The Brown Owl hosts the second half of the Sierra Nevada Beer Camp tasting that was begun at the Platypus Pub on Thursday, starting at 6pm on Friday the 4th. Looks like the beers they will be sampling are Ayinger Dunkel Weisse, Boneyard West-Coast Style DIPA, Mikkeller Thai-Style Iced Tea, The Bruery Raspberry Sundae, Surly Ginger Lager, and Kiuchi White IPA With Yuzu.
Imperial Bottle Shop in Portland is opening a second location on Alberta Street and Friday is the grand opening! “We’re opening our doors on Alberta and want to invite all of you to celebrate with us! We couldn’t have opened our 2nd location without the support of all of our fans over the last 4 years, so to show our appreciation, we’re doing $1 off all pints all day Friday. So come check us out our new digs! We’ll have a taplist pouring that features our favorite local, independent breweries (that’s what we do).” Congrats!
Great Notion Brewing (Portland) is releasing their Peach Punch IPA on Friday and Saturday: “So nice, we brewed it twice! Great Notion & Block 15 have teamed up once again to brew this special ale, blending techniques and ideas from both breweries. Peach Punch is a luscious, fruit-forward IPA, fermented with peaches & apricots and dry-hopped with massive amounts of Galaxy & Mosaic hops. Draft and 16 oz can release days on both Friday (Aug 4th) and Saturday (Aug 5th)!! Note that we MAY at our own discretion (because our walk-in cooler is so darn tiny) be selling more beer then originally planned on Friday and therefore have a smaller allocation for Saturday.”
Saturday, 8/5
PFriem Family Brewers (Hood River) is celebrating their golden birthday—their 5th anniversary on Saturday! “The five-year anniversary party kicks off on August 5th, and you’re invited to take part. Hood River’s Waterfront Amphitheater is our meeting spot for a day of live music, lawn games, kid’s entertainment, food, and plenty of pFriem beer! Come one, come all, bring guests, and hang loose. This is going to be epic! This event is free to attend, family-friendly, and open to the public. We encourage our guests to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets as we won’t have seating available. August is typically very warm and sunny in Hood River, so please remember to bring sun protection! Parking is available along Portway Ave.” The party runs from 4 to 9pm. BIG congrats to PFriem on five years!
Three Mugs Brewing (Hillsboro) is celebrating an anniversary as well, their 4th anniversary on Saturday! “Join us as we celebrate our 4th year with live music from local Celtic band Sons of Malarkey, plus shenanigans, food and special beer release.” They’ll open at noon and plan for cigars, free food, and live music. Congrats!
And Portland’s Cider Riot! is celebrating the first anniversary of their Pub opening on Saturday: “We can hardly believe it’s been a whole year since we first opened our proper cider pub! It’s been such an experience getting to know our neighbors, and meeting all kinds of people from all over this town and beyond. We invite you all to come celebrate the first anniversary of the day we opened our doors! Enjoy live music, limited release ciders on draught, case discounts, and more! Minors welcome until 7pm.”
McMenamins 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop (Portland): On Saturday from 2 to 4pm they are hosting a cider tasting with Corvallis’ 2 Towns Ciderhouse: “The Portland Thorns are playing at Providence Park and 2 Towns Cider is coming to pour samples of their latest creations. Grab a pint of Two Thorns Cider while you’re at it. This collaboration cider features fresh-pressed Northwest apples, raspberries, and rose petals to create a striking berry cider, perfect for pairing with header goals, and the rich sulfur of red smoke in the air at Providence Park. GO THORNS!”
And speaking of anniversaries! Ashland’s Standing Stone Brewing is celebrating 20 years this year and on Saturday they are throwing a 20th anniversary block party! “Standing Stone is turning 20 and we are throwing a giant block party to celebrate! Join us for an afternoon filled with live music, craft beer & bbq, corn hole, games for the kids and great prizes including a Standing Stone Commuter bicycle! The party will take place out on Oak Street in front of the brewpub and will go from 4-10pm. No cover charge and family friendly.” 20 years is fantastic and here’s congratulations and cheers to 20 more!
