Oregon Beer News, 08/15/2017
Here is the news in Oregon beer for Tuesday, August 15. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Sedition Brewing (The Dalles): Their monthly Liquid Education series takes place today from 5:30 to 6:30pm: “Want to learn more about the beverage we know and love, craft beer? Join us Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 5:30pm in the pub at Sedition Brewing Company. Classes focus on various ingredients and aspects of craft beer making. The classes will last for approximately 30 – 45 minutes with time for tasting and mingling to follow. All participants must be 21 and up, as you will be sampling beer throughout class.”
Monkless Belgian Ales (Bend): They are hosting the can release party for their latest canned beer (canned up just yesterday in fact), Peppercorn Imperial Wit: “Stock up for the Solar Apoceclipse with our second can release: Peppercorn Imperial Wit!! P.I.W is the big brother of our Shepplekofeggan Wit. We doubled the IBU’s to balance the alcohol and used a myriad of spices, headlined by a four peppercorn blend, accented with fresh orange peel and coriander. The result is a big, yet light bodied Wit with citrus and pear aromas that finishes clean and peppery.” The party takes place from 2 to 7pm at their brewery tasting room.
Deschutes Brewery (Bend) announced today that they have won a number of awards at the recently-judged World Beer Awards: they won for The Dissident, Obsidian Stout, Mirror Mirror, The Abyss, Mirror Pond Pale Ale, and Pinedrops IPA. I’ll have the longer version in a post later today but in the meantime, congrats!
Tuesdays are also Community Pints days at the Deschutes pubs in Bend and Portland, with $1 from every pint sold going to benefit a local non-profit organization. In Bend for August, Volunteers in Medicine Clinic of the Cascades is the beneficiary, and in Portland they are benefiting Voz Workers’ Rights Education Project. Be sure to stop by and enjoy a pint or three to help out!
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Their Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House at 6pm is featuring Piña Colada, “a new blend in our sour beer cocktail series. Featuring sour blond ales aged in oak barrels for up to 15 months with dried pineapple, followed by a late infusion of rum-soaked coconut, this sour beer interpretation offers the flavors of the Caribbean straight from the barrel!”
Block 15 Brewery (Corvallis): They are hosting their Dine Out at the Tap Room today to fundraise for RASopathies Network: “Please join us for a delicious, locally sourced meal at our South Corvallis Tap Room on Tuesday, August 15th – 10% of food sales will be donated to RASopathies Network.”
Portland’s Base Camp Brewing is hosting the latest Beers Made by Walking tapping starting at 5:30pm today: “TODAY! Stop by the last beer tapping of the year, check out Base Camp’s Forest-Park inspired brew and hang out with some FPC staff and supporters. Base Camp is donating the 100% of the proceeds of their Forest Park beer to FPC!”
Gigantic Brewing (Portland) will be at McNally’s Taproom in Hillsboro for a beer tasting event tonight from 5 to 8pm: “Gigantic Brewing will be on site during the Tuesday Night Market at McNally’s Taproom. The brewery will be sampling their new Spring & Summer seasonal releases and their year round Kolschtastic! We will have all samples available for purchase in bottles (to go or on site consumption).”
