Oregon Beer News, 08/21/2012
Here is the Oregon beer news for Tuesday the 21st of August. As usual I’ll be periodically updating this news post throughout the day, so check back often for all the latest. And if you have news you’d like to share, please contact me and I can get it updated.
Pelican Pub & Brewery (Pacific City): Today is the much-anticipated release of the new addition to their core beer lineup, Silverspot IPA. This English-style IPA, named for Oregon’s Silverspot butterfly (with a portion of the proceeds from the sales of the beer going toward conservation efforts for the butterfly) is hitting the taps at the Pelican today, and bottles should start appearing on September 6th. It’s been awhile since Pelican added a beer to their core lineup, and this should complement the core five nicely.
Silver Moon Brewing (Bend): This week’s Growler Power Hour specials are the same as last week: Hopnob IPA and Life Guard Blonde Ale. The “power hour” runs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4 to 6pm, where you can fill your growler with either (or both) of the week’s specials for only $6—one of the best deals going!
Belmont Station (Portland): Tonight they have a tasting with 21st Amendment Brewery from 5 to 8pm: “In addition to the Hop Crisis can & draft release you can sample the full line of 21st Amendment cans, including Brew Free or Die IPA, Back in Black Black IPA, Watermelon Wheat, and Bitter American.”
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday at 6pm is featuring “Live” Barrel Aged Quad: “This NW Sour Style ale features two different quads of different ages, blended together, then additionally aged for 12 months. This is a peek at one of the major components that makes up our award winning Vlad the Imp Aler. 10.8% / $7 glass / $2.50 taster.” And, if you’re looking for more of that “Cascade fix”, this Friday they are holding their bottle release for Figaro, the NW-style sour aged with white figs: they’ll be selling 750ml bottles for $25 each and there will be a limit of two per person. That’s starting at 5pm on Friday.
Widmer Brothers (Portland): Tonight they are partnering with Thirsty Lion Pub in downtown Portland to present “The Gastro Pub Sessions” which will feature gastropub cuisine and beer pairings tonight starting at 6pm. The menu looks great and the entry fee will cover everything plus a glass chalice. And: “Meet the brewers of Widmer Brothers and Keith Castro, the Executive Chef of Thirsty Lion Pub & Grill. Tickets are only $40 and can be purchased at Thirsty Lion & online at brownpapertickets.com/
Both GoodLife Brewing (Bend) and Klamath Basin Brewing (Klamath Falls) have won the People’s Choice awards at this year’s Bend Brewfest that took place last weekend! Klamath Basin’s Vanilla Porter and GoodLife’s Sweet As Pacific Ale were the two beers that people wrote in to vote for as their favorites. Congrats to both!
