Oregon Beer News, 08/25/2017
Here’s the Oregon beer news for this Friday, August 25, and the weekend. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
Friday, 8/25
Portland’s Lardo Sandwiches is embracing the cloudy IPAs of the east and kicking off their Hazy Daze Beer Festival on Friday, which will last through the weekend: “Join us for three days of New England style, hazy IPA and summer beach food!! Choose from 26 tap handles of delicious, cloudy beers! On Sunday we will be serving lobster rolls, fried clams, steamers, chowder and more off of the original Lardo food cart.” The fest is taking place at their southeast Hawthorne location and will feature Oregon NEIPA favorites such as Great Notion Brewing, Block 15 Brewery, Sunriver Brewing, and Fort George Brewery, but they are also bringing in out of state beers including from River Bend Brewery (Pennsylvania), Other Half Brewing (New York), and Modern Times (San Diego). It runs through Sunday and looks like a cool event!
Portland’s Roscoe’s is also kicking off their weekend-long Sour Beer Summit on Friday: “Pucker up and join Roscoe’s for the annual Sour Beer Summit! The Summit will begin at 2PM on Friday August 25th and will feature great tart and sour beers all weekend long! Some of the Breweries (and beers) will include: De Garde Brewing (Kriek Premier), Firestone Walker Brewing Co. (Bretta Rose), Breakside Brewery (Strawberry Ballyhoo), Port Brewing Co / The Lost Abbey (Red Poppy), Upright Brewing (Heirloom Saison), Alesong Brewing and Blending (Berlinerweiss), Modern Times Beer (Rowing Needles), Russian River Brewing, Trinity Brewing, pFriem Family Brewers, Drake’s Brewing Co. (Luscious Love Child)., and many more! Taster trays will be available!”
Hopworks Urban Brewery (Portland) has a very cool beer release today (Friday): Total Blackout, and eclipse commemoration beer. “Very limited draft and specialty 22oz bottles. Imperial Cascadian Dark Ale brewed with fresh Centennial hops that we will harvest at Goschie Farms in the Willamette Valley during the 2017 Total Eclipse. We have the honor of harvesting fresh hops in the dark while watching the moon and sun cross each other’s paths. We will truck the beautiful hops over to the brewery and add them to the brite tank that very day. Available at our Powell location on Friday the 25th. If there are any bottles left, we’ll send them to our other locations the following week.” The release party is from 5 to 7pm.
And on the topic of hops, Eugene’s Agrarian Ales is hosting their hop harvest this weekend, starting Friday: “HOP PLUCKING ALL DAY LONG! Earn tickets worth $1.00 off your tab for helping us out! Great for the entire family! Plus, music everynight.”
Saturday, 8/26
The third annual Beaverton Craft Beer Festival takes place Saturday the 26th, kicking off at noon at The Round in Beaverton. Cost is $8 for the mug and $1 per tasting ticket (following the standard conventions), and they are pouring 50 beers from 25 breweries. Brewpublic has an easy-to-read list of breweries, as well as the live music lineup.
McMenamins 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop (Portland) is shift a bit from beer and hosting a Blossom Brothers Wine Spritzer Tasting Saturday from 2 to 4pm: “Each Spritzer starts with wine from Washington’s Columbia Valley, and is blended with 100% natural botanicals. We’ll be offering samples of all three of their current spritzers, White Peach/Jasmine; Pink Grapefruit/Honeycomb; and Blood Orange/Ginger Root. Cheers!”
In Cannon Beach on Saturday is the inaugural Hayday! Beer Fest, featuring over 40 breweries pouring from noon to 6pm: “Party like a rock star(fish) at Cannon Beach’s inaugural beer fest, a coastal celebration of Oregon Beer pouring over 40 beers. Fantastic eats from the Wayfarer Restaurant’s Chef Josh Archibald and his mobile smokehouse. Desserts by Ruby Jewel Ice Cream. Live music from Portland’s own Nate Botsford.” Cost is $25 for general admission, which gets you the glass and six tasting tokens.
Bailey’s Taproom and Tin Bucket in Portland team up Saturday for Bucketful o’ Bailey’s, a Bailey’s/Upper Lip tap takeover of Tin Bucket: “Bailey’s Taproom & The Upper Lip takeover Tin Bucket for “Bucketful o’ Bailey’s”, the inverse party for “Tin Lip”! We’ve been meaning to do this for a few years but we thought #Baileys10Year would be a good time to cash in the favor.”
Worthy Brewing (Bend) is holding their annual Central Oregon Hop Farm Tour on Saturday all day from 11am to 4pm: “Join us for the third annual Central Oregon Hop Farm Tour on Saturday, August 26th, 2017. The tour will once again be running as an open house event from 11am to 4pm, so visit each of the six farms on our route at your leisure: Smith Rock Hop Farm, Wilhelm Brauerie, Cascade Hop Farm, Tumalo Hops Company, Strong Hops, and Cloverdale Hops.”
Thunder Island Brewing (Cascade Locks) is hosting a Love Your Columbia Day fundraiser on Saturday all day: “Drink Beer for Clean Water. A portion of our Taproom proceeds will go to support Columbia Riverkeeper as part of Love Your Columbia Day! Columbia Riverkeeper’s mission is to restore and protect the water quality of the Columbia River and all life connected to it, from the headwaters to the Pacific Ocean.”
