Oregon Beer News, 08/28/2012
Here’s the Oregon beer news for Tuesday the 28th of August. As usual I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news as I find it. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get it updated.
Oakshire Brewing (Eugene) is invading Corvallis today and tomorrow, with a Brewer’s Dinner tonight at Les Caves and an Oakshire night at CrowBar tomorrow. Tonight’s Brewer’s Dinner is taking place from 6 to 9pm and costs $60 per person (with a limit of 30 seats). The menu looks great and you can call Les Caves directly at 541-286-4473 to find out if there are still seats available.
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday at 6pm is featuring “Live” Rum Runner Mission: “This live barrel of NW style sour old ale was aged in rum barrels for 10 months, then aged on black mission figs for seven hours. Aromas of dark rich rum, vanillin and oak are noticed up front. Sweet notes of dark rum and spice on the palate lead to a finish of dark caramel and spice with a lingering warm rum note. 10.2% ABV, $6.5/glass.” Sounds delicious!
The Lucky Lab (Portland): Their Hop Harvest is tonight starting at 6pm (though I believe you can drop your hop bines off earlier)—the community hop donation and picking event where everyone is invited to bring in their hops (any kind, it doesn’t matter), and then is welcome to stay and help pick them off the bines (starting at 6). The hops will go into Lucky Lab’s “The Mutt” their annual fresh hop beer. And you can get food and beer as well, naturally. If I were in Portland I would definitely go to this; Jeff promises you’ll have a good time, so there you have it!
Belmont Station (Portland): Tonight from 6 to 8pm they are hosting a Flanders Fred night for the collaboration brew between Hair of the Dog and De Proef: “Join us in our Biercafe for an evening with Hair of the Dog founder Alan Sprints and Deproef representative Tim Ensign. We’ll be pouring Flanders Fred (the collaboration between these two breweries) and the two base beers that were blended to create it: Hair of the Dog Fred (the local version, not the Belgian batch) and an 18 month old lambic from Belgium’s Bockor brewery. Try a flight of all 3 to get the full flavor spectrum.”
Pelican Pub & Brewery (Pacific City) is brewing their fresh hop Elemental Ale today, and is documenting some of it on Facebook. The listed release date for the beer is September 20, can’t wait!
Golden Valley Brewery (McMinnville): This Thursday they’re releasing their Oktoberfest from 3 to 6pm, and featuring $2 pints again. This one might be the second in their “Harvest Series” instead of the fresh hop beer I had written about previously; if so, then you can expect to see Oktoberfest on tap at both the McMinnville and Beaverton locations, and the $2 pint deal (if like the first one) will last until the first keg of the beer is kicked.
Silver Moon Brewing (Bend): This week’s Growler Power Hour is featuring three beers: High Plains Hefeweizen, Life Guard Blonde Ale, and Jingo Jango San Diego Pale Ale. The GPH occurs each Tuesday and Wednesday from 4 to 6pm, and during that time you can fill a growler with any of the featured beers for only $6.
