Oregon Beer News, 09/04/2013
Here’s the news in Oregon beer for Wednesday, the 4th of September. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
Belmont Station (Portland) has a busy couple of days this week: tonight from 6 to 8pm they are hosting Bend’s Worthy Brewing for a can release and tasting: “Bend’s Worthy Brewing is putting some of its liquid nectar in cans and we will be sampling the Worthy IPA, East Side Pale Ale and Easy Day Kolsch, plus the Gary’s No Quit Wit in bottles. Come see how worthy these delicious beers from Bend really *can* be. (Get it?)”
And tomorrow they are hosting a small-batch tasting with Portland’s Widmer Brothers, from 5 to 8pm: “Widmer was asked to brew the official beer for Feast Portland, a celebration of Oregon Bounty. Focusing on one of Oregon’s most valued fruits, the brewers have created Krystal Pear. Come taste this new direction in beer and also enjoy two versions of a Widmer favorite, Old Embalmer barley wine — one version is the original recipe and the other has been aged on Pinot Noir barrels. All of the beers being sampled by Widmer were brewed at their small-batch system at the Rose Garden.”
The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting Hood River’s Double Mountain Brewery tonight for a special release of Double Mountain’s limited Devil’s Kriek! “You won’t want to miss Devil’s Kriek, a very limited sour Belgian-style ale with tons of Bing cherries! We’ll also have their Kolsch; Poseur, a “Triple Pale” at 10% and 85 IBU; Lulu, a Saison with hibiscus, pink peppercorns, and pink rosebuds; Dirty Deeds, their 6th Anniversary ale; and Homestead Pale Ale.” It runs from 6 to 9pm tonight and this is not to be missed!
Rock Bottom Brewery (Portland) is holding their Rocktoberfest keg release party today from 5:30 to 7pm: “Rock Bottom will be giving away free food samples and discounting pints of Rocktoberfest to $3. The proceeds from every $3 beer sold will be donated to PNG Empowers! Invite ALL your friends, your family, and your co-workers to join in on the fun. This is a great opportunity for anyone to learn what it means to be a Portland New Generation Rotarian.”
Fresh Hop Watch™:
- Hopworks Urban Brewery (Portland) has their community hop harvest underway today: “an Awesome group of volunteers are picking delicious fresh Willamette and Cascade hops from our hopyard. Look for the release of our Estate IPA in a couple weeks featuring these hops.”
- Fort George Brewery (Astoria) has their own annual community fresh hop beer coming up: “Take your fresh hops to Fort George Brewery tomorrow and help flavor this year’s Co-Hoperative Ale – bringing people together with the love of craft beer.”
- The Green Dragon (Portland): They have a firkin tapping tomorrow (Thursday) featuring Rogue’s First Growth Wet Hop Ale, the first appearance of this beer this year I believe. The firkin will be tapped at 5pm.
