Oregon Beer News, 09/13/2017
Happy Hump Day! Are you watching for those fresh hop beers to hit the taps? (I am!) Here’s the Oregon beer news for Wednesday, September 13. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
McMenamins Thompson Brewery (Salem) has their Savor in Salem beer tasting today, featuring Roads End CDA, a tribute beer: “He’d been coming to our pub for 25 years. Swinging the door open with his own unique style, briefcase in hand and always a good morning with a nod of the head. It took me months to understand his heavy Czech accent, though his quick “Ha” of laughter was easily identifiable. We lost him suddenly. One day he was here, the next he wasn’t. On this day, his son Jakub was at home brewing. In his honor, we present this CDA that flamed off just as Jindrich left us. Don’t let the dark body of this ale fool you. This medium-bodied CDA is highly drinkable and balanced. We aren’t overwhelming you with a bitter profile but more of a balanced hop profile, full of big bodied aroma and flavor. The Black Wheat helps darken the body without adding big roast or coffee notes, but rather a fuller body on the palate. So many memories and stories.” The tasting runs from 5 to 7pm.
The Bier Stein presents Eugene’s first taste of Cascade Brewing‘s and Bruery Terreux’s collab beer (just released yesterday), One Way or Another, tonight from 5 to 8pm: “One Way or Another is a blend of sour triple ales aged in oak wine barrels for up to 16 months with regional ingredients including Oregon marionberries and California Meyer lemons (7.9% ABV). Last spring, the crew from Bruery Terreux visited Cascade, AKA the House of Sour, to discuss the blend and to brew the first batch of what was to become One Way or Another. The following week, Bruery Terreux replicated the same recipe in their brewery in Anaheim, Calif. The Bier Stein will tap both versions of One Way or Another, along with two beers from The Bruery Terreux (Train to Beersel and Oude Tart with Raspberries) and Cascade Brewing (Shrieking Violet and Honey Ginger Lime). We will have bottles of Cascade’s version of One Way or Another for sale as well.”

Portland’s Culmination Brewing is raising money for the Friends of the Columbia Gorge all day today: “This Wednesday you will be donating to Friends of the Columbia Gorge when you purchase beer in our taproom. As Oregonians and Washingtonians, we are saddened by the damage to our crown jewel, the Columbia River Gorge. It may have some scars in the coming years, but we won’t allow that to take away from its magnificent beauty. We at Culmination Brewing will donate 10% of beer sales this Wednesday to Friends of the Columbia Gorge, in helping with restoration projects. And thank you to the fire and rescue teams in fighting the blaze and rescuing the hikers. Cheers friends!” Also be there at 7:30pm this evening for a change to win some great raffle items.
