Oregon Beer News, 09/17/2012
Here’s the Oregon beer news for Monday, September 17th, and I’m sorry to say the final week of summer. Though that means more fresh hop and pumpkin beers, so it’s a trade-off! As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated.
Brew Werks Brewing (Bend) is officially brewing beer in their new facility! They posted the update on Facebook this weekend and we should see that first batch of beer roll out of the brewery an on tap at the Old Mill Brew Werks pub in a few weeks I’d imagine. The new space is 10 Barrel Brewing‘s former brewery space, which they vacated when they built their new 50-barrel brewery. In the meantime Brew Werks had been contract brewing first with Silver Moon and then with Phat Matt’s. It will be interesting to see what new beers will be coming out of the brewery in addition to their regular lineup!
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tomorrow’s Tap It Tuesday at 6pm is featuring “Live” Straight Double Red. “This NW style sour double red ale was aged for seven months in French oak wine barrels. Aromas of dark red wine, raisins and red grape skins are noticed up front. Notes of sweet red grapes and caramel with hints of hazelnuts on the palate lead to a finish of bright red currants and cherries. Believe it or not, there is no fruit or spicing in this beer. 7.5% ABV, $6.5/glass.”
More fresh hop goodness coming down the pike:
- Silver Moon Brewing (Bend): Their Hoppapotamus Fresh Hop Ale is coming out soon: “We brewed it last week and planning to have it kegged and bottled by 9/26. HOPPO will be sold on draft at the pub and in 22oz bottles.”
- McMenamins breweries have some Thundercone sneak peeks on the way this week: “There are 2 special pre-releases, the first is at Oak Hills on Wednesday the 19th, The second is at Edgefield’s distillery bar with side by side tastings of vintage 2011 Thundercone and the fresh 2012 Thundercone!” The 2011 version won’t be fresh—not by a long shot—but that would definitely be an interesting side-by-side.
- The New School has the full list of fresh hop beers—a staggering 51!—that will be pouring for the Hood River Hops Fest coming up at the end of next week, on Saturday the 29th.
