Oregon Beer News, 09/17/2013
Here is the news in Oregon beer for Tuesday, September 17. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
The Bier Stein (Eugene): Today they are tapping a special beer from Lagunitas Brewing from 6 to 8pm: “Join us… as we tap Lagunitas Brewing Co Fusion 17, a hoppy brown ale. Chip went down to help with the brew, and some of the Lagunitas folks will be here to hang out and give away some brewery swag. We’ll also tap Fusion 16, Maximus Imperial IPA, and Li’l Sumpin’ Wild!” So it basically sounds like a Bier Stein/Lagunitas collaboration brew, which is very cool!
McMenamins Bagdad Theater & Pub (Portland) is holding a “meet your makers” (brewers) and special beer release for the Edgefield Oktoberfest Lager that premiered last week, tonight starting at 5pm: “It’s that time of year to bid farewell to summer and welcome the coming autumn. What better way to do that than with a festive Oktoberfest Lager. The Edgefield Oktoberfest is a traditional style seasonal lager, brewed in honor of the changing seasons. It pours a beautiful crystal clear copper color with a creamy off-white head. Subtle aromas of sweet bread and toffee greet the senses. The first sip opens up with the crisp, clean flavor of caramelly German malts with a touch of sweetness and a dry subtle spicy citrus aftertaste. A quaffable fall lager to celebrate the annual harvest. Prost!” As always it will last until the keg is gone—and then once it’s gone, it’s gone.
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House at 6pm is featuring Wild Elderberry: “a blend of wheat and blond ales that were barrel aged for 18 months, then additionally aged on wild elderberries for 30 days. Aroma of soft tart red fruits and hints of wild strawberries and watermelon are noticed up front. Light red candy notes and sweet fresh elderberries swirl on the palate. The finish is of light, tart, sweet candy and elderberry fruit with hints of candy and watermelon – reminiscent of Jolly Rancher candy. Yum!”
Fresh Hop Watch™: Pelican Pub & Brewery (Pacific City) has their fresh hop ale going on tap today: “Elemental Ale, a fresh “wet” hop ale, brewed only once a year at peak hop season will be tapped at 5pm. We have a very limited supply (and no bottles this year) that we predict will run out quickly, so get here fast!”
Laurelwood Brewing (Portland): Add to the growing list of things to do this weekend Laurelwood’s Laurelfest Fresh Hop Fest: Saturday the 21st, 3 to 9pm. From Facebook: “This years laurelfest beer is an interpretation of a monastic style single ale. You may be familiar with the doubles, triples and quads, but the single is the everyday drinker for the monks. A celebration of life and work! We used a simple malt bill, expressive yeast and floral hops to create a clean, flavorful blessing on your day. Sorachi Ace hops, a Japanese variety now grown in the Willamette Valley, impart lemon and dill flavors, blending with the spicy and fruity dynamic in the yeast. Hops – Simcoe, Sorachi Ace” Should be a great evening!
