Oregon Beer News, 09/24/2012
It’s Monday at the start of the first full week of Fall, Oktoberfest is in full swing, and fresh hop beers are popping up everywhere! Here’s the news in Oregon beer for September 24th. As usual I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Occidental Brewing (Portland) is celebrating their second annual Oktoberfest this weekend, Saturday the 29th, all day long from noon to 10pm. It’s also the release of their 2012 Festbier, a malty Oktoberfest-style beer in the old tradition, and of course Occidental’s other beers will be on tap as well. “Everything takes place at the brewery, inside the taproom and outside in the courtyard. Chervona is back to again rock your faces and this year Urban German will fill your bellies.” Admission is free, minors are welcome, and it’s going to be a great time, all taking place at the brewery and the courtyard adjacent to them.
Full Sail Brewing (Hood River) is celebrating their 25th Anniversary this Thursday the 27th at their pub in Hood River (Facebook event page). They’ll be toasting their new “25” pale Doppelbock brewed to celebrate the 25 years at 5pm, and then at 6 over at the Horse Brass in Portland there will be another toast and tapping of the “25”. Whichever location you find yourself, it’s going to be a good party I’ll bet!
The Ale Apothecary (Bend): This Friday, the 28th, The Ale Apothecary is teaming up with Bend’s Broken Top Bottle Shop to hold a Brewery Celebration starting at 5:30pm: “Pouring free samples of (The Beer Formerly Known as) La Tache at 5:30; 3 bands lined up and special guest beers to celebrate with. Also distributing our only available beer to Ale Club members! It’s going to be slightly off-the-wall and totally Apothecary.” This would be a great introduction to one of Oregon’s newest and most interesting breweries if you can swing it!
Cascade Lakes Brewing (Redmond) has a fresh hop beer hitting the taps soon: “Santiam Fresh Hop Harvest Ale will be on tap at Seventh Street and The Lodge Tuesday afternoon!” This is one of the only (if not the only) fresh hop beer made with Santiam hops that I know of. And the brewery will have this Harvest Ale also pouring at this weekend’s Hood River Hops Fest.
