Oregon Beer News, 09/25/2017
Happy Monday! Here’s the news in Oregon beer to kick off this final week of September. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting Tualatin’s Ancestry Brewing for a meet and greet event tonight from 5 to 8pm: “Ancestry Brewing has been making exceptional beer in the Portland area and we are excited to help introduce them to you. Making a wide range of beer styles you will surely find one that suits your palate. Fresh Hop Piney IPA on tap and possibly a surprise draft too!”
Fresh hop festivals are taking place this weekend: first the Portland Fresh Hops Fest returns to Oaks Amusement Park on Friday the 29th and runs through Saturday the 30th. $20 gets you the glass and 8 drink tickets, and the beer list is here. Then on Saturday the 30th the Sisters Fresh Hop Festival takes over Village Green Park at noon, featuring 26 breweries and $15 for the glass plus 5 tokens. Money raised will help benefit the American Cancer Society. Get your fresh hops fix this weekend!
This weekend Portland’s Cascade Brewing is celebrating the 7th anniversary of the Barrel House, with a long weekend of special and vintage ales on tap from Friday through Sunday. Among the specialties: “Cascade has teamed up with Stumptown Coffee Roasters for Stumptown Bourbonic, a variation of the brewery’s award-winning Bourbonic Plague. Stumptown Bourbonic features imperial spiced porters aged for up to 22 months in bourbon barrels with vanilla beans, then blended with coffee from Stumptown’s Cold Brew division just before packaging. This extremely limited anniversary project offers intense flavors of coffee, chocolate, bourbon and vanilla, with a mild acidity and warming finish.” After you’re done fresh hop festing be sure to swing by!
Right now through October 7, Portland’s Imperial Bottle Shop is hosting a Fresh Hop Beer & Art Showcase at their Division Street location: “Fresh hop season is upon us, and this year the hop harvest has acted as a muse for 7 talented local artists. The outcome is that our art wall will be adorned with fresh hop inspired art during the height of fresh hop beer season! While we fill our tap list with the freshest of fresh hop beers we can get our hands on (check our website for the tap list at any time), we’ll also be hosting an art show featuring Alea Bone, Caitlynn Abdow Velasquez, Kelly Neidig, Angie Johnson, Claire Schatzle, Chris Haberman, and Chris Kelleher. So stop by, quaff some delicious fresh hop beer, and check out some great local artwork!”
De Garde Brewing (Tillamook) is the guest of honor at Tin Bucket in Portland tonight starting at 5pm for their Frederiksdal & De Garde Night: “This is going to be a incridable evening, we will have Harald from Frederiksdal in the house to explain all his delicious cherry wines. Since Trevor from De Garde brewing is a huge fanboy of Harald’s we figured we would include themn in the event. Trevor will be bringing some cool kegs for the event.”
In Eugene, Oktoberfest continues at Beergarden, with featured beer, German food, live music, and more. Each evening they’ve hosted a featured brewery tapping some of their beers, and tonight is Bend’s Silver Moon Brewing, who’s tapping Bruno Marzen, Tropic Zombie IPA, and Salty Bog Cranberry Gose.
A nice article about three upcoming Salem breweries showed up in the Salem Statesman-Journal this weekend. According to the article, all three are slated to open this fall: Bine Valley Brewing, Xicha Brewing, and Ratchet Brewery. Bine Valley is taking over the space Salem Ale Works vacated when they moved to a larger location. Xicha will be the first Latin American brewery in the city and the first in West Salem. And Ratchet will focus on hoppy American-style beers.
