Oregon Beer News, 10/07/2013
Happy Monday! I’m back after a long weekend of Pumpkin Beer in Seattle, and I hope everyone had a similarly good weekend. Here’s the news for Monday, the 7th of October. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
10 Barrel Brewing (Bend) is releasing their collaboration beer that Tonya Cornett brewed with Stone Brewing and Bluejacket, today at 5:30 at their Bend pub, and then are following up the rest of the week with additional release parties in Portland, Sunriver and Bend. Suede Imperial Porter is brewed with honey, jasmine and calendula flowers that comes in a 9.6% abv and Ezra over at the New School has an early review. This is going to be a popular beer so if you get a chance to hit one of the release parties (today in Bend, Belmont Station on Tuesday, Roscoe’s in Portland on Wednesday, the Mountain Jug in Sunriver on Thursday, and Broken Top Bottle Shop in Bend on Friday) you should definitely be there.
Portland’s White Owl Social Club is holding a fresh hop beer celebration dubbed “Heathens & Hops” tomorrow (Tuesday the 8th): “Heathens & Hops is a massive celebration of this special time of the year—so get ready because FRESH HOPS are here! We’ve rounded up special offerings from fifteen different craft brewers and we’re rolling them out for one special night on Tuesday, October 8. Festivities commence at 6pm, when we tap the first batch of kegs and get the party going with HEAVY METAL TRIVIA–and pay attention, there will be prizes. Then at 9pm, the second batch of kegs will go on while you raise your glass and bang your head to HEAVY METAL VIDEOS until midnight and beyond!” There’s no cover and they have 15 beers listed to be available. It starts at 6pm so make sure to swing by if you still need your fresh hop fix.
Old 99 Brewing (Roseburg) has been pouring beer for a little while now, but this Saturday the 12th they are holding their Grand Opening! “Roseburg, how does local craft beer, live music, and a pig roast sound? Come to Old 99 Brewing Co. Saturday, October 12th from 12-8. Help us celebrate the Grand Opening of Roseburg’s newest craft brewery. More details to follow throughout this week…..stay tuned.”
Silver Moon Brewing (Bend) has their Twisted Gourd Pumpkin Ale out now. This beer has long been Central Oregon’s one and only pumpkin beer brewed locally (in recent years 10 Barrel and Deschutes and now Rat Hole have all been brewing them) and is available in bottles and on tap. And, made with real pumpkins! Definitely an important aspect of any pumpkin beer. Go find this one!
Oakshire Brewing (Eugene) has a(nother) pumpkin ale hitting the taps tomorrow: “Tomorrow we release “The Existential Pumpkin”. This beer is a Pumpkin Saison, Hazy golden farmhouse ale. It has a big aroma of ripe fruit intertwined with subtle fall spices. Lone Pine Farms Sugar Pie Pumpkins added to the mash. Need I say more? See you tomorrow at 6:00!”
