Oregon Beer News, 10/11/2017
I hope your week is going well this Wednesday, October 11 and you’ve got a vision of beer for the end of your day! Here’s the news in Oregon beer for this Hump Day; as usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Pelican Brewing (Pacific City) announced today three upcoming fall beer pairing dinners: “Pelican Brewing Company savors the change of seasons with three events celebrating their popular beer cuisine and award-winning beer: coming soon are Playful, Pelican’s fall Brewers’ Dinner, beer pairing and interactive dinner theater on Saturday, October 21; and Take Flight, a guided flight of Pelican’s acclaimed barrel-aged series on Saturday, November 11th at the Pacific City brewpub. Take Flight Cannon Beach will take place at the Cannon Beach brewpub on Sunday, November 12.”
Gilgamesh Brewing (Salem) is releasing The Terry Porter in six-packs of 12-ounce bottles, joining their 22-ounce bottles (and draft of course). “Since its launch in January 2015, sales of The Terry Porter have helped raise $70,000 for The Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation and completion of the Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) Gary and Christine Rood Family Pavilion. With the fundraising goal met for this project, this season’s fundraising will support the OHSU Cystic Fibrosis Center, the only nationally approved CF program serving Oregon and Southwest Washington, and OHSU Doernbecher’s care of kids with CF. Together again, Gilgamesh Brewing and Columbia Distributing will donate $1 for every 6-pack and 22oz bottle sold, $25 for each 1/2bbl keg sold, and $9 for each 1/6bbl keg. There are also multiple custom-made NBA Jam Terry Porter edition arcade games traveling around Oregon collecting quarters for the cause. At the Gilgamesh Brewing restaurant each Terry Porter pint ordered adds $1 to the OHSU Doernbecher glass tank.” The bottle signing release party will be on October 22.
Rogue Ales Eastside Pub in Portland has their Green Dragon Brew Crew release today at 5pm, featuring Schwartz Rauchbier: “As we head into the cold winter nights we begin to dream of those big thick dark beers that nurture us through the cold, dark nights. The beer tonight is the first of the season in this vein. Black as the night with six different malts and fermented with lager yeast this Schwartz (black) Rauchbier (smoked) has a lot going on. Forty percent of the malt bill was rauch (smoked) malt and after fermentation, the beer was transferred to a Dead Guy Whiskey barrel where it aged for ten weeks. The result is a silky smooth black beer with smoke, oak and whiskey notes from the aroma to the lingering taste of malt at the finish. A fitting start to the Winter months, this beer will keep you warm and tells of more such beers to come.”
Falling Sky Brewing (Eugene): Their week-long Oktoberfest celebration continues today, with beer and food specials all week long, “including our house made sausage, pretzels, & sauerkraut.” Make sure to order up a stein of their Cloud Gazer Oktoberfest Lager or Dark Heart Munich Dunkel Lager if you go!
And Eugene’s The Bier Stein has their Hop-Up Pub continuing today as well, featuring a bevvy of fresh hop beers: “And you thought it was winter beer season…. well, our beloved purveyors of hoptastic IPAs have been piling them on this month, so we decided it was a good idea to showcase as many of the flavors as possible all at once with 12 lupulin-laced goodies on tap!”
The Commons Brewery (Portland) has Brett Mango Farmhouse Ale for sale today: “Today at noon in the tasting room we will be selling Brett Mango Farmhouse Ale, our classic farmhouse ale bottle conditioned with Brettanomyces and Mango juice. 10 cases total. $12/bottle. Limit 3 bottles per person. Hope to see you down here!”
Full Sail Brewing (Hood River) announced today the release of their GABF award-winning Sesiόn Cerveza in cans: “We are happy to announce that Sesiόn Cerveza Mexican Style Lager – brewed for a hot day, a hot date, and anything in between – is now available in 12 oz. cans. Sesiόn Cerveza recently brought home gold from the 2017 U.S. Open Beer Championship and silver in the international-style pilsner category from the ultra-competitive 2017 Great American Beer Festival.” Worth picking some up!
