Oregon Beer News, 10/13/2017
Happy Friday the 13th! I hope your enjoying your end of the week and aren’t too spooked by the falling of this (lucky) day in the same month as Halloween… Here is the news in Oregon beer for this weekend to get you through. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please let me know and I can get that updated as well.
Friday the 13th
Lompoc Brewing (Portland): Friday at the Sidebar starting at 4pm is the can kickoff party for Lomporter: “Don’t miss our Lomporter Can Party on Friday, October 13 from 4pm to 9pm at the Fifth Quadrant (3901 N Williams Ave). We’ll have a fire pit (weather permitting), prizes, and a one day only sale of our Lomporter Classic Porter in six-packs for just $6! As part of the festivities, we’re also throwing a Shrimp Boil, featuring shrimp, corn, potatoes and sausage for just $13 a plate! Available after 4pm while supplies last.”
Silver Moon Brewing (Bend): Friday is the first day of their grand re-opening, which will continue Saturday as well: “You’ve been waiting 5 whole months for it & it’s finally here! Join us for our official TWO – DAY Grand Re-Opening Weekend October 13th & 14th! FRIDAY, OCT 13: 6-9pm: Complimentary Photos inside Bend VW Photo Bus. 9pm: LIVE MUSIC BY MOsley WOtta with Special Guests Speaker Minds. Delicious desserts by Addy Mac’s Creamery. SATURDAY, OCT 14th: 9pm LIVE MUSIC by Streetlight Moon! Food & drinks during regular business hours & family friendly until 9pm!”
Bend’s Monkless Belgian Ales is issuing their third can release on Friday, for their Capitulation dry-hopped Belgian tripel: “Our third can release is here; CAPITULATION –A Belgian style Tripel with a true PNW blast of flowery and citrusy hop aroma! We took our classic Belgian Tripel and dry hopped it with Amarillo and Centenial that blends fabulously with the earthy and spicy hop Perle and Saaz base, and now it’s in cans! To celebrate our third can release we are offering 10% off when you purchase one of each of our 4-packs! We’re The Würst will be serving up hand-made Bratwurst, Charcuterie, Frites & more!” The release takes place during their hours from noon to 8pm.
The Bier Stein in Eugene is hosting Bend’s Crux Fermentation Project for a beer tasting event Friday from 5 to 8pm: “Crux is a destination brewery in Bend, known not only for their great beer and food, but for the big lawn and seriously epic sunsets. Well, we’re bringing a bit of the fun here– join us for a tasting with Crux Fermentation Project! We’ll feature 8 of their tasty beers on tap.”
Wayfinder Beer is taking over the taps at Roscoe’s in Portland on Friday from 5 to 8pm: “Prepare Montevilla! Wayfinder Beer will be bringing it’s finest Lagers and Ales to Roscoe’s this Friday in an all out, no holds barred tap takeover. We will be providing loyal drinkers a legion of options to demolish your thirst. Start with the freshest pint of lagerbier hell in town, then work your way down all ten beers to a delicious Deadlights Triple IPA.”
Saturday the 14th
There are a number of fresh hop events taking place on Saturday:
- Bend Brewing Company: Fresh Hops on the Pond. From noon to 9pm, a lineup of Central Oregon breweries will be pouring fresh hop beers at BBC’s beergarden lawn.
- Gilgamesh Brewing (Salem): Farm to Face Fresh Hop Harvest Fest. We are pleased to announce our Farm to Face Fresh Hop and Harvest Party on Saturday 14th of October! From 12-8pm you will be able to come down and enjoy our over 20 Fresh Hop beers as well as ciders and food from other local vendors.”
- St. Paul Fresh Hops Fest takes place from 2 to 10pm in St. Paul (east of McMinnville), promising over 20 beers for what looks like $12.50 (available online).
Feckin Irish Brewing (Oregon City) is throwing their O.C.ToberFest on Saturday starting at 4pm: “2nd Annual, O.C.Toberfest. Bavarian Food Drink and music. traditional german beers and a dozen local breweries german style ales. German brats and kraut. German Polka Band. o.c. strong man compition with keg toss.”
The Umpqua Brewfest returns to Roseburg on Saturday; billed as “A celebration of clean water, craft beer,
and sustainable living in the hundred valleys of the Umpqua,” the fest kicks off at 1pm at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. “We are looking forward to a day of great beer, music, and community! Join us at the fairgrounds for a guaranteed great day. More info to come so stay tuned and invite your friends! $10 admission includes event glass and 4 tastings. McMenamins Thompson Brewery (Salem) is celebrating Widow’s Day on Saturday—the release of their Halloween seasonal, Black Widow Porter, along with specialty versions: “Our Brewer Jen Kent has crafted our seasonal Black Widow Porter and other dark, unique brews fitting for the season. Stop by for a taster tray filled with haunting qualities, and grab a tour of the brewery while you’re at it. Taster Tray $9.”
Portland’s Saraveza is celebrating their 9th anniversary on Saturday! “We’re thrilled to have been supported by so many breweries, brewers, distributors, community members, delivery drivers, beer lovers, bloggers, writers, college students, postal workers, mothers, fathers, and children over the years. You’ve all made it possible for a Wisconsin native to make Portland home and for us to have such an amazing selection of beer, food, and people! Come celebrate with us. We’ll have a staff curated draft list, a cake, an industry toast, and of course all the the pasties and cheese curds you can cram in your belly!! Cheers to 9 years!!!” BIG congrats!
The Portland Kölsch Festival is taking place Saturday at Zoiglhaus Brewing from noon to 7pm: “Zoiglhaus Brewing Company presents the first ever Portland Kölsch Festival. Joining us will be 15+ breweries featuring their interpretation of the style. Don’t dig Kölsch? Don’t worry, there will be other styles represented as well! $18 gets you a special limited-edition Kölsch glass and TWELVE drink tickets! ($23 at the door.) We will also have raffle prizes which include packages like gift cards, apparel, growlers and growler fills, and other fantastic swag – again all proceeds from the raffle will go to the Oregon Brewshed Alliance!” Should be an interesting fest, much more low-key than some of the extreme beerfests that have been popping up.
Elk Horn Brewery in Eugene is celebrating Oktoberfest all day on Saturday, and as a bonus, they are inviting in ColdFire Brewing and Alesong Brewing on Saturday to pour all three GABF award winning Eugene beers: “This Saturday at 2pm: Come meet the brewers and celebrate with Eugene’s 3 Great American Beer Festival’s winners!! We will have everyone’s winning beer on tap to taste!” Very cool!
Little Beast Brewing (Portland) has a beer release for their Animal Family beer on Saturday: “We’re releasing Animal Family 375 mL, our Foeder-Aged Farmhouse Ale, this Sat. at the brewery! 6 mo. in the making, 7 distinct microflora and layers of flavor. 4 beers on tap, bottle sales and merch. available.”
